I am trying to estimate the amount of spending that occurs in various industries in a city. I see that ESRI has a retail demand outlook, a retail demand by industry, a retail goods and services expenditure, and a household expenditure report. What is the difference between these reports and which is best for estimating spending in a certain area? It seems like the values for each industry vary by the report I choose.

Hi there:

Please see below for an answer to your questions:

The Retail Goods and Services Expenditures, Retail Demand, and Household Budget Expenditures reports are curated collections of retail-related variables from Esri’s Consumer Spending database. These variables estimate the demand for over 700 products and services.

The Retail Demand by Industry report is built from Esri’s new Retail Demand by Industry database. These analytics represent a complement to the Consumer Spending (by product and service) database, but instead these data represent expenditures by industry.

Please visit our documentation page for further reading/education. Thank you.
