When using the calculate field tool and creating a new field the default field type is text. Why would I want this when I'm dividing two doubles? The result creates a field which I cant use in further operations.

The real way around it is of course to create the field before the calculation. However, it would be quicker to have that option as a drop-down menu in the calculate field window.

Calculate Field (Data Management)—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation

What version of Pro are you using? or are you not using the tool from ArcToolbox?

Hi @JonasJansson could you provide clarification about what you are looking for? Were you looking to change the default field type or just the field type in general?

You can change the field type on the calculate field tool using the Field Type parameter drop-down. You can specify the field type if you are making a new field, but you can't use it to change the field type of an existing field.
