I wrote this lesson after reading about the Oroville Dam's compromised spillway after the heavy February rains in California. I read about this in the Los Angeles Times.
I preceded this lesson with a basic lesson on mapping favorite places. In that lesson, students learned how to create an Excel spreadsheet, convert it to an csv file, then import.
The lessons were designed for my 6th-grade class.
