A GIS requires good spatial data. There is a variety of sciences that contributes to geomatics, such as statistics, physics, optics, calculus, etc., but this variety can be mindboggling.  In addition, the links between these academic subjects and practical GIS operation are often not explained.  What is a confidence interval? What is least squares?  What is a geoid?  What is a projection?  These are topics for this blog.
