The Oahu ESRI User Group was formed advocate GIS use and development, to stimulate discussion on ESRI software use and methodology and to provide the Oahu GIS community with sharing and learning opportunities. The Group facilitates discussion and exchange of information and ideas in these areas by hosting regular meetings and workshops open to both members and non-members.

In 2013 the US Army Corps of Engineers collected topobathymetric lidar data along the State of Hawaii's coastlines. Topobathymetic lidar provides the land elevations and ocean depths of Hawaii's near shore environment in a single data set.
