I agree... its confusing for users. If unsure, the best course of action is to click "No" then navigate to the Map via the Map button on the menu at the top of the AGO page - which should then show the map in question in its current state, allowing you to save changes if needed.
For what it's worth, I've got a case and it's sort of my regular case, where I can navigate back to the map in question and all looks well. Nothing to save, etc. But, I still get the error when attempting to open the other map. I'm not sure if it's a server update thing, like the 10 minute warning AGOL gives sometimes. I think I've been waiting for more than 10 mins to no avail. Now, looking for solutions. Thanks. Eric
