My idea would be to allow a functionality to create multiple tile caches, that would be shown as a single tile cache with multiple layers, of the same area with different temporal ranges and then either have a time slider or a simple layer on and off to be able to see the different images all within one tile cache. Right now it is multiple tile caches in separate services which is some what inconvenient specially when you get a more recent image.

Thank you for posting this idea, Sean.

Through the use of Image Services which reference time-aware data, it is possible to display a raster time slider. Here is a sample page on our ArcGIS API for JavaScript documentation page which shows such a service in action. An older blog post here outlines an ArcMap-based workflow on preparing raster data in such a way.

Based on the description you provided, I think that perhaps utilizing dynamic services may be more beneficial than cached ones if possible. For example, our documentation on map authoring considerations makes mention that caches are a good option if your data is unlikely to change, but the nature of time-enabled data suggests a continuous change taking place to the underlying data used by the service.

Would time-aware image services served dynamically like the suggestion above answer some of the requirements of this Idea? I'd be happy to hear more information about why this offering is not viable for you.

Thanks!

I think this idea should be considered, especially with the availability of High-resolution Raster data when a Dynamic service is published with Time Slider, it really impacts the performance.

Thank you for your idea! This is currently possible in ArcGIS Enterprise. Please see these resources:

If there is something you are trying to do that is still not possible with this existing functionality, please share another idea with details on the app you would like to use for visualization and the format your data is stored in.
