I work in Electric Distribution.  Normally while editing my electric system I leave all the land base and other features that do not get edited very often as not selectable so as to not inadvertently move them.  Then occasionally I will need to edit one of those features and or snap to them.

So I would like to see a second edit tool.  It would act exactly like the original Edit Tool.  Except it will have its own set of customized settings.

A separate Snapping Environment

Its own Selectable settings under List by Selection

Its own set of Templates

Both versions of the tool would be able to utilize the same settings but could also be set to one or the other.

Example. I am updating a clients electric system.  As I go along the client wants me to adjust primaries and facilities to a Buffer around the road so everything is at an equal distance from the road center line. Make it easier to distinguish. I find I am constantly having to turn the snap on and off for the buffer.  That is just one example.  But there are dozens of times I need to change a setting for a little amount of time in order to accomplish a task

Hi rborchert

Do you mean that you're looking for a way to in essence set up "editing templates" where you could have one editing template with its own snapping environment set, its own selectable layers specified, and associated with its own feature templates?

And then you could switch to a different "editing template" that is configured with different snapping settings, selectable layers, etc.?

Kory Kramer that is in essence exactly what I am looking for.

Say have it in new tool bar with several check boxes.

Example (based on Electric use for the example)

When you have box one checked it is set to snap only to the endpoints of Primary Overhead and service points and only electric features are selectable

Click on box 2 and box one turns off and snap settings are changed to snap to the edges of roads or row and only land base features are selectable.

Great - I'm glad that I understood that correctly.  I think that with the initial description and this little follow up, users will be able to understand the requested functionality so that they can up vote it.  However, I'd like to make a friendly suggestion to clarify the Idea's Title to something like Create Editing Templates to set separate Editing Environments including Snapping and Selectable Features.  You can change as you see fit, but this might help others find the Idea!
