I often want a study region to be defined by zip codes, but I choose which zip codes to include based on a drive time or other region on the map.

The main problem is that some zip code regions are so small that it is nearly impossible to find them using the method of defining the region by selecting zip codes from the map.  Trying to find them all by zooming and scrolling is both tedious and error-prone.  (The alternative method of selecting them from a list entails finding each zip's location, which is also tedious when the list is long.)

I suggest that BAO add a feature that will automatically select all the zip codes (or other region types) inside a polygon or drive time.

Hello Pete,

Thank you for submitting this idea. Don't forget to vote for it!

Could you provide some more information on your current workflow? How are you determining which ZIP polygons to select? Are you choosing ZIP codes that coincide with a drive time polygon, or are there other factors that influence which ZIP codes you're selecting?

Please provide any additional information you can to help us understand what you're doing, and what you'd like to get out of the Business Analyst Web App.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

I'm trying to do as you suggest in your reply.  I want to select zip codes that coincide with drive time polygons.  I have used the Find Component Geographies tool however it creates multiple zip polygons where the drive time boundary intersects a zip code boundary.  I wish the Territory Design tool would select the zip polygons as in Find Component Geography tool but then create a dirty area for the overlapping zip code areas, then I can decide what territory the polygon should be in.

Do you know of any way to do this? I like the ability to reassign territories in Territory Design.

Thank you for any suggestions!!

Be careful when only using ZIP code areas.... Here is one example," How zip codes hid the water crisis in Flint | Michigan Radio "
