Hello,

I have recently deployed an application in Flex 3.4 and I am using ArcGIS 10.1. For the Print I am using the advanced print widget for 3.4. The print templates work fine for landscape (Pdf or jpg format) but when I try to print the portrait then the pdf comes back distorted for part or all of the legend and jsut for teh symbols. In this case the symbols when they are circles show up with lines in between. No problem with any of the other elements of the map template so the map component shows up okay.

I have tried moving elements around in the portrait template and it seems the legend shows up distorted when it extends beyond a certain length in the page. Unfortunately I need to meet certain map standards (disclaimer text, logo, map and legend) to be able to use the portrait template. I would use just jpg format but the quality is not as good as pdf. Any way I can correct the portrait templates so the legend shows in the pdf template?

Thanks,
Patricia

Patricia-

Are you using your own Export Web Map Task? Or are you using an esri sample server as your task's url? There are a few posts about this problem and a couple of KB Articles listed below:

http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/40538
http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/30753

The workarounds listed in the KB Articles will only work if you are using your own Export Task since you obviously can't alter an esri server. I have ran into this problem as well and it is very frustrating. Even with the workaround I sometimes have issues. I have actually been using a client side solution developed by Chris North (http://www.43northgis.com/gallery/default.html) and prefer it greatly over the Advanced Print Solution.

The workaround provided in the first link to set print settings to A4 or bigger (A4 extra) seemed to have worked for A4 portrait.

Thanks,

Patricia, glad to hear that. If it took care of your problem, could you please mark the post as answered.

Patrica-

You marked the wrong post as answered. Instead of marking your question, you should be marking the post with the answer.

Matt;

I've tried using the 43northgis solution.  It works fine, but seems to lack a few things.  Namely, is there a way to use my own templates and is there a way to cancel the print window should the user decide he does not want to continue printing?

If you know how to add to this solution, I think it would be a great enhancement.

Thanks,
Russ

Russ-

This would take modification to the source code. This is something that can be requested from: info@43northgis.com but it will come at a cost. I have not purchased the source code as the sample widget provides enough functionality for my clients, however I have contacted Chris (developer) about getting it so I know it is available. Also, I believe that Chris will do the modifications for you at a cost and send you a compiled version of the modified widget, as that is part of what his company does, however you should really contact him about that and not take my word on it.
