I found this in the customer care portal.

Selected products that are being incorporated or retired will not be upgraded to 10.1.
?Maplex and ArcScan are included with ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop

Does this mean ArcScan in no longer an extension and is included with ArcGIS for Desktop Basic (ArcView)?

I have basic and Maplex works but ArcScan does not, I get a message that I do not have an ArcScan License.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

ArcScan is still technically implemented as an extension, which means that you need to install it during the ArcGIS 10.1 setup program and enable it in ArcMap on the Customize menu > Extensions to use it. I think ArcScan is included with Standard and Advanced licenses, but may not be available as a separate add-on purchase for Basic/ArcView. Check with Customer Service to clarify this for your organization.

However, Maplex is entirely in the core product with all Desktop licenses (known as the Maplex Label Engine on the Labeling toolbar) and is not an extension.

This was a beta problem and the extension should be included with all levels with the final release.
