Hi

I have created a Map Package in 10.1 Pre-release and Shared to my AGOL Organisation Account. When I click the Open in ArcGIS 10 for Desktop link the .pkinfo file downloades but does not open ArcMap. Right clicking on the .pkinfo file and selecting Open also fails to open the package.

Any advice appreciated.

I had a similar problem. I opened ArcGISFileHandler and set it to used ArcMap to open layer and package files. I think this is what you're asking.

It can be found here.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin

Now I've got the problem that when I open a map created using ArcGIS Online in ArcMap 10 it only shows the basemap and not any of the associated shapefiles.

Hi,

I've run ArcGIS 10 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Service Pack 3 - English (http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&PID=66&MetaID=1807#intro) and I'm with the same problem: the .pkinfo opens in ArcMap but no shape file is included, only the basemap.

What can I do to get back a shape file that I've create in ArcMap and sent to ArcGIS online?

Thanks,
Maria

Nicholas,

Regarding opening web maps in ArcMap, ArcMap doesn't currently support all the layer types that can be in a web map. Version 10.1 will support all the layer types in web maps including shapefiles, and when you open a web map in 10.1 layers based on shapefiles or other feature collections get converted into geodatabase feature classes.

Hope this helps,

Mike
