Hello everyone,

I created a map application using ArcGIS Online template ( Basic Viewer) which has printing functionality. But print is not working. I thought of browser issue and tried to print in different browser, still no luck. Here is URL for map application;

http://www.arcgis.com/apps/OnePane/basicviewer/index.html?appid=9acad5c2f1e3447fbee1472c795b0847

One more question, is there way to make "Details" tab as a default instead " Legend" in Basic Viewer template?

Thanks

@naboon,

Sorry it has taken so long for this...I suspect there is just too much data stored in the map that it overwhelms the browser.

Hey Mike,
is there any way around this issue?

I am having the same issue. My map has 2 layers from a map service on my ArcGIS Server.

I think Zapper identified the issue. (At least for me.)

I use a service in a Web Map  that is not publicly exposed, Print does not work.
I use a service in a  Web Map that is  publicly exposed,  Print works.

I add these services using the ADD-->Add Layer from Web...

Since the Print service (in the cloud) can't see a service in the Web Map,  Print breaks(?).

When I say "publicly exposed" I mean I can access the layer/service from my home computer, etc. These services were created
using ArcGIS Server and are hosted on our public facing server that serves up our public facing web apps, etc.

Yes, ArcGIS Online can't print layers based on services that are behind a firewall. You can view such services in the browser, if your browser is also running behind the firewall. This is because the browser resolves the URL to the internal service and doesn't pass through ArcGIS Online servers. However, as soon as you try to print, it does pass through ArcGIS Online servers, and thus must be externally available on the web.

Thanks,

I can reproduce the problem with your application. We are looking into it.

Thanks,

Mike

I am having a similar problem.  I have create a basic webmapping application with ArcGIS online and cannot use the print button option.  I select Print - and then the page size option.  It says printing, then nothing happens.  Any help would be great.  Here is a link to the application.

It seems I'm having this same problem. When zooming in to a smaller area, the print succeeds, but zoomed out, it says 'Printing' but then nothing happens. Could you enlighten a bit more on this? Is the print processing done client side?

I would like to add that I succeeded once in printing the whole map. This was just after installing a Firefox update. I emptied the history to try to repeat this, but no luck.

I have a similar issue. I have cached ArcGIS Server 10.1 REST service layers added in ArcGIS Online, then displayed on a map. The map prints okay (though slow) when I turn off the parcel layer or zoom way in so there is less data to psuh. But even at a scale of 1:10k it has a print error with the detailed parcel layer on. A more general land use layer works fine. Tried in Chrome and IE 10.

For me anyways, I fixed this by changing the print service in ArcGIS Online from the default one to the print web map service on my ArcGIS Server, as per http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgisonline/index.html#//010q000000ts000000

Now the detailed data prints just fine.

Our city website is hosted by ArcGIS Online (Basic Viewer) and just recently noticed an issue with the Print functionality.  When zoomed out (less detail), print is usually no problem (albeit slow).  When zoomed in (parcel boundaries, imagery, etc), the print functionality does not seem to work.  Sometimes the page indicates that it is "Printing" and then nothing happens (does not change to "Printout").  Other times the Printing message changes to "Printout" but the link takes us to an Error page

When I turn data heavy layers on/off (imagery, parcel boundaries, etc), I still cannot print.  Additionally, I cannot consistently replicate when I will get the error page so I can't pinpoint when/if the basemap is a problem.

We did not previously notice a problem with the Print services.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

I think I may have narrowed down my printing issues to versioned data.

The printing works fine when my feature layer uses non-versioned data (thanks to the helpful tips here), but printing fails if the data is versioned.

Is this a bug?

Thanks,

Stephanie
