Save edits with python

I dont think you can make ArcMap save edits but need to verify. I wanted to make an extension that saves edits automatically when a feature is finished as a first foray into python add-ins. Dont see that is possible but I want to be sure before I abandon the project.

I think you can only do that if your edit session was started and managed with the arcpy.da.Editor class.

I do not think you can invoke a save in a standard interactive edit session.

...But it would be handy to be able to do that.
