Anybody know how I might configure the summary viewer template to use a map service rather than a webmap?

I can get it to work by publishing a webmap with a single operational layer and specifying the webmap id in the config, but I would like to reference a map service and a layer within that, without publishing as a webmap

Anyone know how I might be able to do that?
