Layer initialization failure

I have a few layers that don't initialize 50% of the time. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good way to reinitialize without the user needing to refresh the application?

Unfortunately most of the layers don't support a second initialization try.

The only way is to create a new layer with the same properties and replace the old one by the new in the map.
