Hello,

I saw in two presentations and demonstrations for the ArcGIS Online, that from ArcGIS Desktop I can publish the map as map service to ArcGIS Online.

From File Menu > Share As .........I dont have Share As option in my ArcGIS Desktop 10.

How can I publish map from my machine to ArcGIs Online as web service using ArcGIS Desktop 10?

Another question, How can i create and develop a custom application and publish it on my ArcGIS Online account?

Thank you and waiting for your reply.

The Share As option will be available with ArcGIS Desktop 10.1. You will be able to publish to your own ArcGIS Server, and to ArcGIS Online if you purchase an organizational subscription. Here's a link for more information

Mike,

What version of ArcGIS Desktop will be needed to be able to publish maps to ArcGIS online for Organzations?  Will the Standard version (ArcEditor) be needed or could editable feature server maps be publishing using the ArcGIS Basic (Arcview) license level?

There are some license restrictions with arcview.  For example, you can??t publish a geometric network network analyst dataset, cadastral, etc.  These require the appropriate license to copy these datasets from one geodatabase to another, which is what we need to make the package that gets published to the server.

Mike,

Just to confirm.  You're saying that the Arcview/Basic license will have most of the publishing capabilities to ArcGIS online for Organization, correct?  The main one I'm thinking of is publishing a feature service so the web clients such as the iOS apps can't do feature editing.  That would be available using the Basic Arcview license, correct?

Yes, you should be able to publish.

My organization is looking to use ArcGIS Online as a solution to hosting some of our client's geodatabases on our SDE. We want to create mobile apps for field agents to collect data and edit versioned GDBs on a client's server. We currently have ArcMap 10 (ArcEditor) and its not likely that we are going to upgrade to ArcMap 10.1 just to get the "share as..." feature. I signed up for the trial version of ArcGIS Online in order to try publishing from ArcMap up to ArcGIS Online, is there any way to do this? If this is not possible, can you please offer an alternative solution?

Thank you.

Publishing from ArcGIS Desktop requires version 10.1. There is no other solution I am aware of.
Publishing of shapefiles and CSVs is supported directly from ArcGIS.com, however.

Thanks,

Can I share to ArcGIS Online using a personal use license? Or is that feature only limited to organizational licensees?

Thanks,

Jack
