Hello,

I am at a novice at all of this so be patient. We are a real estate development firm that has just begun using ArcGIS Online and BAO. We've used GE in the past to plot potential sites, draw site boundaries etc. I find GE's drawing tools to be much easier to use. I am just beginning to explore the ArcGIS and BAO tools. I love the BAO tools for site selection (consumer behavior, demographic analysis, etc).

I can't figure out how to efficiently and effctively use all three. Let's take a case study:

I was sent a .kmz file showing me boundaries for a client's next location...imagine a rectangle that is 5 miles wide and 3 miles long encompassing a large part of a metro area. I want to run some drive time and demo studies at major intersections.

I figured I could pull the kmz into ArcGIS as a layer (easy enough), add that to a map (easy enough) and then use that map as a webmap in BAO...which is where i got stuck. I can not get the boundary area from the kmz to show up in the web map in BAO. It shows in the thumbnail but will not show up in the map. I started over using the file s a kml and no luck.

Any ideas?

What I'd love is to be able to do is draw and plot in GE, publish those maps to a webserver and pull them into BAO for analysis.

I appreciate any ideas.

Perry,

Probably the best case scenario is if Business Analyst Online could except kmz/kml files like it does Esri shapefiles as study areas and currently it does not have the ability.  I did experiment on the AGOL side if I could get a kmz/kml into a feature service I could then export to a shapefile to import into BAO but I did not have any success on that front.

I am of the opinion that it would be a pretty good enhancement request to enable one to import kmz/kml files directly into Business Analyst Online.  One place to request that would be at Esri Arcgis Ideas | Ideas Submission Portal .

Convert kmz to shp using FME and then use it in BAO
