Weird symbols: ampersand, pound, etc.

We're using ArcGIS Explorer version 2500 on 64-bit computers.  For some users, the simple squares, circles, and triangles in Layer File X display beautifully in Explorer.  For others, the symbols are replaced with ampersands, pound symbols, and asterisks.  How should I troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

The problem sounds like it is due to missing ESRI Fonts.

For those experiencing the prolblem installing the Fonts Expansion pack might help.

Thank you!

I am sure the computers which are working have not had the expansion pack installed.  However, they do also have ArcMap, while the weird symbol computers have not.  So maybe the ArcMap install included something Explorer didn't.

Your download informed me that there is a version after 2500, so I will remove 2500, upgrade to 2505, and see if the issue is resolved.  If not, off to the expansion pack.  I'll update the thread w/results.

Thanks again!

The expansion pack installs the Esri fonts that are included with ArcGIS  Desktop. So, installing the fonts should resolve it .

So, there's a chance I'll need to do two installs: both the upgrade and the expansion pack.

Is there a way I can predetermine which symbols Explorer can read?  IT won't push an expansion pack to 1400 computers.  The symbols in this map are extremely basic--circle, square, triangle.

If you author the map using Picture Marker Symbols, you wont have the font problem.

Do not use Character Marker symbols that make use of the Esri Fonts..
