I am new to Flex and ArcGIS and am considering porting a Flex tool I've written to ArchGIS maps Flex API from Google Maps.  What licensing limitations are there?  The wrote a tool for whale researchers that I'd like to open source and host on Google Code, is that permitted under the ArcGIS License?  Going forward could a non-open sourced paid applications/mobile apps be written with ArcGIS Flex API?

I'm not a lawyer but it depends on what map service your pointing at.  For instance if your using openstreet maps as your base map layers, they have certain rules such as putting a link to their page on the map (see their restrictions).  For ESRI basemaps, I think those are mostly available to everyone but you might want to check it out at arcgis.com, etc.

Hi there,

I am new to Flex API ... What licensing limitations are there?

FYI, please review the Esri License Agreement documentation for specific details.

... Going forward could a non-open sourced paid applications/mobile apps be written with ArcGIS Flex API?

Yes this is possible. However, you please ensure that you have the appropriate licensing permissions. I suggest you contact your local Esri office/Distributor.

Hope this helps,
