Changing the display order of fields in the Parcel Details Dialogue?

Hi all,

I just created a new field in the 'Parcels' class of my fabric, with the name 'Legal Acreage'. When I added it to the fabric, it appeared at the bottom of the list of fields in the fabric properties in ArcCatalog, and also appears in the same order in the Parcel Details Dialogue when creating/editing a parcel. Ideally, I would like for this field to appear above the 'Stated Area' field; for 1: because I don't want the field to be left NULL by mistake during the creation of a new parcel, and 2: because this will enable me to directly compare the 'Stated Area' field (a system calculated value) to the 'Legal Acreage' field, which represents ground-truth survey measurements. (Our Annotation layer will be based on actual survey measurements, and we may one day feature-link the anno class.)

Note: Changing the order of the fields (under the 'Fields' tab in the 'properties' of the 'Tax Parcels' class, does not change the order the fields appear in the Parcel Details Dialogue.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Justin,

This is a good enhancement request, at 10.1 the Parcel Fabric can be edited by the 'editor attributes' window that has this capability.

Another quick note, the 'Stated Area' field is calculated using the bearings and distances as recorded (with a compass rule adjustment applied).  If this calculated value is not the legal value, you can simply overwrite it in the Parcel Details before saving your work.  This would eliminate the use of your 'legal acreage' field, and simplify the workflow (having to maintain 2 fields).

Hey Chris,

Thanks for posting on this thread. It helps me to know the 'stated area' field isn't calculated based off of our existing data in the fabric, but off of the new COGO data. Since our legal acreage is never exactly the same as the calculated 'stated area' value we may just follow your advice and overwrite this field with our number. I'm looking forward to 10.1 it sounds like it resolves alot of the issues I have been seeing. Also, having the ability to add and then move fields around within the parcel details dialogue will come in handy and enhance our workflow.

Have a great day,
