Hello to everyone responsible for hiring/interviewing/picking a candidate for a GIS related job,

My wife and I are looking at moving to a big city in about a year or two and I am starting to realize that I will need a new job once I move. This has got me thinking about what I can do now that will make me a better candidate for my GIS dream job (whatever that may be).

For those of you who have been directly (or indirectly) involved in hiring for a GIS related position I would like to pick your brain. Below are some of the questions that have plagued me recently. If you could give your insight on one, a couple (or all would work too), I would greatly appreciate it.

1. What GIS related entry on a resumé has stood out to you in the past?

2. Do you use a portfolio or some kind process to check out past work?

3. Do you use a competency test during the interview or as part of the hiring process?

4. What is more valuable to you? A degree in related GIS field, certifications in GIS, years of experience?

5. Complete the sentence. "If you can be nothing else then be ____"

Thank you so much for your input!
