AGOL Tile Layer not building tiles

Hello all,

I've uploaded an Arcmap map set for display of vector data and an ortho mosaic along with labels at different scales.  During the upload, I select the option to build the tiles later.  Once uploaded, I went into the tile layer's settings, clicked the Manage Tiles button and selected 4 low-tile-creation layers to make sure it would work (had tried all this in Pro with issues).  1:1,155,581 to 1:144,448 created fine and are view-able.  I since have tried to build the rest of the layers without success.  I've selected 1:72,224 and down and selected to Create Tiles. It calculates the number of tiles and credits needed and even shows the nifty showing that the work is in process.  When I come back later though, no credits are consumed, it longer shows that it is processing, and no tiles have been processed.  I've tried just all levels and only one level with the same result.

Anyone have any thoughts on why or how this might happen and how to fix it?  Note: the switch of scale dependent rendering happens at a different level.

Thanks,

Jim

It is better to produce the tile package locally and upload it instead of generating the tiles by ArcGIS Online (when it comes to consumption of credits). Do note that a tile package larger than 1GB will not be uploaded. I had one the other day with 1.01 GB and that did not work.

Share Package is good for getting around that limit, our biggest tile package shared through this is 49GB. Obviously we wanted to generate this locally as it takes multiple days and would use a lot of credits if we didn't!

ArcGIS Online is bugged when publishing your uploaded tile package and turning it on to a hosted tile package as it won't, in our case, ever say that 100% of tiles are available but they are. In our case it's telling us that 4.71% of tiles are available but this is incorrect, everything's working fine.

I also learnt not to delete the tile package after creating the tile layer if you want to be able to take your basemap offline. I learnt this the hard way and had to re-upload and publish 49GB!

Hi Pete,

The behavior you describe about tiles not completing is a known issue:

BUG-000085241: Publishing tiles does not complete in ArcGIS Online. This may be due to incorrect ext...

Thanks for the responses. I realize that I could have been clearer in my wording.  When I said "upload' the map, I actually used the Share As Service and set it as a tile service.  Once I get this issue resolved, I intend to extract tiles into a tile package to support mobile also but need it on AGOL first.  Has anyone else seen this?  -Jim

Hi Jim,

Try contacting Esri Support services. They can help determine what specifically is causing the issue that you are seeing.

Another option is to check the status of your tile job:

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/index.html#/Job_Statistics/02r30000022z000000/

To get to the jobs directory try a creating this url from your map service url:

http://tiles.arcgis.com/tiles/<orgID>/arcgis/rest/admin/services/<serviceName>/MapServer/jobs
