Hi,

I was having issues with arcmap and opening mxd files. This is what I got. The mxd wasnt the problem because I was able to open on another machine.

error1.JPG

So I decided to update to 10.2.2. Tried to open the same file and no luck. Then I tried creating a new mxd file, and this time the add data button was grayed out. So I decided to repair the software and do the same operations again and it didnt work.

Then I tried to uninstall 10.2.2 and reinstall it again. This time I got the following error. I havent seen this error before.

Any thoughts about this issue?

Thanks!!!

Worked for me. Just had to do the regedit fix only. This occurred when I tried to install CorelDraw X8 on my computer.

I updated to the latest version too. Problem not solved. Doesn't happen when I export a single page - happens when I export any range of pages from most mxds with data driven pages active. It will crash on export, I'll restart, it will let me export once (however many pages), then crash. I restart, it let's me export one more set of pages, crashes, then I must restart in the loop from hell. Infuriating waste of time. ESRI - are you fixing this?????????????????????????????

So far we have not been able to reproduce this error in-house.  As with other errors plaguing the Esri user community, the Esri developers are unable to fix the problem without a repro case.  I have noticed that this error also occurs in other programs like Adobe, Hallmark 2011, and several others that I am not familiar with.  In one post, there was mention of using 3D symbols in the map document, and that the error was resolved with the 3D symbols were removed.  This looks like it may be graphics-related, so upgrading or changing out the video card driver might allow progress with this issue.  FYI - the most recent report of this error message is occurring at 10.3.1 of ArcGIS Desktop.  Please keep us in the loop and post if you find any step that resolves this issue on your computers.  Margaret Maher

Hi Scott,

I’ve upgraded to 10.4 and no longer get the error. If memory serves, I was receiving the error when attempting large map exports using data driven pages (i.e. to create a multi-page pdf ‘map book’). I had the following work arounds:

1) I would never attempt to overwrite a pdf, but rather delete the pdf and then re-export

2) I would occasionally have to close the mxd and re-open it if I’d used DD pages to navigate within the mxd, before it would export correctly.

Good luck,

-Jon

I have ESRI 10.4.1 and this is happening to me when simply exporting a large topo map to a pdf.  With another similar map it appeared to export, but there is no map.pdf where I exported it to.  I get the same error as Ahmed above.  I did close and reopen the mxd's to try again.  I most often get maps out to troops and those that request them in a very timely manner.  This is quite frustrating.

I found something via Esri Support Services that may be the issue:

BUG-000102530 : ArcMap hangs when printing to PDF if features have been labeled with extended Unicode letters

What font are you using?
