Good day all,

I've set up a database which is managed by arcgis server locally for portal for arcgis however I am unable to add or delete features from a feature service I have set up. Create, delete ,extract, query, Sync, update are already enabled for that service.

Also I am unable to upload a customs background or create a group in portal. See pics attached.

Hope this is enough information. Please let know if I need to provide more details.

regards

Gideon

Hi Derek,

Wanted to ask you a question concering ArcGIS for server but I could not find an option to send you a private message.

I would like to know If a users have installed ArcGIS Desktop 10.0, would they be able to connect and edit an Enterprise Geodatabase Database server created using ArcCatalog 10.4.1.

Awaiting your reply!

Gideon.

Hi Gideon,

While I have not personally tested, I believe that ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 can connect to a 10.4.1 enterprise geodatase - but I don't think it will be able to make edits. Desktop 10.0 will not understand any of the 10.4.1 geodatabase enhancements.

FYI: ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 has been retired since Jan 1st, 2016 and is no longer supported. I strongly recommend you upgrade. Please review the product life cycle doc:

http://downloads.esri.com/support/product%20life%20cycle/arcgis_desktop/ArcGIS_PLC.pdf

Hope this helps,

Gideon, I think you are referring to the database version?

This issue came up for us yesterday but in reverse.

Our research indicated what Derek has said.

Our Oracle EGDB is still at 10.0.  (We are migrating.)

One editor was hitting it with 10.4.1 ArcMap.

I believe the Esri compatibility charts show 10.4.1 was marked as backwards only to 10.1

Strange things can possibly happen.  You might get away with it and then down the road you might discover that it was a real mistake.  Why risk it.

And I strongly echo Derek (not that he needs it), get those 10.0 desktops gone.

One major issue: Editor Tracking really needs at least 10.1

Yeah Paul. I saw that chart to. I also saw that 10.0 could be upgraded to 10.1 at no cost

see here: How To: Upgrade licenses for ArcGIS Desktop 10 to Version 10.1

Is this ligit?

Hi Gideon,

> ... I also saw that 10.0 could be upgraded to 10.1 at no cost ...

I believe this is true if you are on maintenance. I would check with your Esri account manager/Distributor. Also, I would recommend you upgrade to a more recent release, as ArcGIS 10.1 is in mature support.

Hope this helps,

Good day Derek,

Just a quick question on maintenance. If I'm paying maintenance every year, will I be upgraded to a new version of ArcGIS when it releases? For example. We are at ArcGIS 10.4 now, well actually its 10.5? Anyway If a version ArcGIS 11 is released, will I get upgrade keeping in mind that i've always paid maintenance.

Regards

GIdeon

Hi Gideon,

> If I'm paying maintenance every year, will I be upgraded to a new version of ArcGIS when it releases?

As far as I'm aware, the answer is "yes" - unless there has been a change with the software licensing model, or if you've licensed the software under a special program, like an Education site license. As always, it is best to check and confirm with your Esri account manager/Distributor.

Hope this helps,
