Hi all,

Is there a way to change the extent of the output density surface raster from the Optimized Hotspot Analysis tool? I have tried adjusting the processing extent in the environment settings and also changing the extent of the input point shapefile, but this seems to do nothing. Does the tool not extrapolate beyond the XY extents of the input points under any circumstances? Below is a picture of my issue. I realize there are no additional points to the north or west to interpolate to, but I am looking to create mirror images of the half-circles already formed for aesthetic purposes. Thank you!

Hmm, I think setting the processing extent should have worked.  Can you try setting the raster analysis mask to your study area?  That may produce the results you need?

The Optimized Hot Spot Analysis tool wraps the Kernel Density tool to create the output raster.  You could also try running the Kernel Density tool itself with the same input data.  To get the same results with the Kernel Density tool, use the optimal scale of analysis distance found by Optimized Hot Spot Analysis (it's reported in the results window) and use it as the Search Radius parameter for Kernel Density.

Hope this helps,

Jenora

Still couldn't get this to work by changing the processing extent to that of the FL polygon, but using the Kernel Density tool worked like a dream, thank you!

In the Environments tab of the tool, did you set it to the extents of the point file? or Florida?  The processing extents set within the the arctoolbox tool is pretty foolproof in my experience... but generally useless from the geoprocessing options settings.
