I installed 10.2.2 and need the 'mgisdata' folder to complete my homework. I searched my computer and cannot find it, any idea where it could be?

I just now installed ArcGIS 10.2.2 for class and the very first exercise requires the data from the 'mgisdata' folder, but I can't find it. I downloaded the ArcTutor data folder, but it is not there either. Where should I look, or how should I get it?

Maribeth Price‌ visits here... perhaps she can lend a hand... and if you bought the book second hand, perhaps the disc was kept by its original owner if you no longer have it... perhaps there is a supplemental url

Hi,

Yes , we sometimes have trouble with used copies.  I have an ftp site where you can download the data for previous versions (the publisher doesn't do this). There are several versions depending on the edition; file has migsdata5e, mgisdata6e, etc. for the edition number.  It comes as a zipped file; you will need to unzip it before using.  The site address is

ftp://ftp.sdsmt.edu/pub/mgissite

I haven't been on there in a while so I'm not positive that the 5e edition is there.  If not, let me know and I'll get it posted.

I looked the other day (http://mhhe.com/price7e) and there's a copy of the current MGIS data for the 7th edition in a zipfile (along with the videos, which are very useful for people new to ArcMap, and other supplementary  material).

I think the 6th and 7th edition datasets are the same?  Nice that you have the old ones posted at that ftp location for folks with old books (and old versions of ArcGIS). Though of course I think updating to 7e is worth it -- as there are improvements and updates to keep in synch with Esri's continual software changes.

The first half of the PDF explains where the data is SUPPOSED to be on the disk
