Hi all,

I have received an hardrive from a geophysical survey with the following data:

MBES- DTM : Density xyz   xyz file

                       DTM xyz        xyz file

                       Slope xyg       xyz file

MAG : text file

SSS:   Mosaic: .tif and .twf file

           Raw data: xtf data

SBP:  .sgy files

I do not know how to import them into ArcGIS 10.2 Desktop and I do not have 3D Spatial Analyst tool. (But I have QGIS which sometimes makes the job).

Can anyone help me?

Thanks a lot

F.

Download Notepad++, very handy, will open almost any textfile no matter how big.

But if the problem has gone away (at least for now....), then everything is moot.

Good luck.

Hi Neil,

I hope you are well. I finally got the Spatial Analyst extension and I have few more questions about my surface comparisons.

-  let's say that I have two different contour layers (from different geophysical campaign) from two different years. How can I do the comparison? Let's say that I would like to do a difference from two different bathymetry plots...

- second question is: I have the Isopach contour  for a particular area. How can I do the interpolation of these polyline?

Thank you very much,

F.

Convert Contour lines to DEM. It will be easy to get the different .with MAP Algebra > Raster Calculator Raster Calculator—Help | ArcGIS Desktop   .

If you have vector data like contour lines, better interpolate them into a raster.

I thought from our earlier conversations that you already had the rasters?

Hi Neil,

I had  different projects data so yes probably last time I was dealing with raster. Currently I have some isopach data (contour lines) and I need to interpolate them. The only way I see it is possible with my licences (basic one and Spatial Analyst) and my knowledge (which is really low) is using TOPO to Raster.Once I browse my contour shp, some values are set as per default (i.e Tolerance 1 and 2, output cell size...) I do not know whether I am doing the right thing and if it is the case whether I  have to set any of these fields. Please see a screenshot of the first two rows of the TOC of my isopach layer

I have again bathy contour line for the same project. If I have to interpolate the value shall I have to do the same step (topo to raster)?

For  another project I have bathy contour from different surveys (as mentioned before) and what I want to do is the difference. As I have been suggested to convert them into raster first is the above step ok? I do not know why the Topo to raster interpolation is not working for the bathy contour of this project so I do not know whether I haven't got it.I have an error message during the interpolation when I try to do TOPO to Raster with the contours from both the surveys. Any suggestion? (the error message is the small windows that pops up at the end of the interpolation in the right bottom corner). the other interpolations (IDW, Kringing...) ask me to import points features which I do not have as they are contour line.Sorry for my very silly questions but I am struggling due to my low experience.

Thanks a lot

So, what exactly is the error message you are getting.

And, yes, topo to raster should do a reasonable job of interpolating the contour lines into a raster.

Don't forget that you seem to be dealing with 2 separate things here - bathymetry, which i take to mean an elevation surface. Watch out for signs here. ie is it negative, below sea level.

And isopachs, which I take to mean thickness of a certain layer.

If you want to use other methods you could convert the lines to points using one of the conversion tools.

Hi Neil,

I haven't got the message anymore (so probably I was doing something wrong last time).

I have  converted the two different bathymetry contour (from 2 different years) into raster (TOPO to Raster) and then I used a  MAP Algebra > Raster Calculator to get the difference between the two rasters as Abdullah suggested. If I want to obtain the contour line of the new raster (the one which is the result of the difference), shall I have to use Spatial Analyst-surface-Contour tool? Thank you very much for all your help and have a nice weekend
