Lighten scenes - is there anyway to lighten up some of the scenes? In some scenes where there is water the water is almost black and the adjacent land is so dark it is hard to make out details.

No, you can't do that now. The render of scenes will be improved when ArcGIS Earth upgrade to new runtime SDK.
