I'm trying to create Thiessen polygons from 800,000+ points, and I keep getting error "000261:Cannot add point features to tin." I used to be able perform this function on an older version of arcmap with no problems, but version 10.1 can't handle it. Any ideas on how to make it work? Is there a maximum number of points? Any and all help is appreciated.

nad83 is a datum, not a projection.  check to see if you have a geographic coordinate system (GCS aka decimal degrees) or if it is in a projected coordinate system, perhaps a ministry of Ontario lambert style, or if narrow enough in the E-W direction, a UTM (17? 18?).  Local drive is good, just trying to rule out foul paths etc

besides being a hefty number, can your provide some basic information... where are the files stored? the path to the file, are the data projected... pretty well anything.  And did it work with that number of points in the past.  Also, you might need to see if this is a legacy error that may have existed and was fixed in more recent versions.

I have the data stored on the local drive, and has a prj (nad83).

I'm not sure if it's the number of points causing the issue or some other factor that isn't obvious. The file that I'm having a hard time with is a set of points throughout south-western Ontario (800,000+). I'm also running the same process on a file of 1.1 million points for Alberta and I haven't come across any issues yet.

Also, from older versions that error for tins was due to the intermediate workspace/folder being read-only. so check your scratch and temporary workspaces.  When you say it is a 'local' run, that means everything, no network involved at all

All of the files i've run so far have worked except for the one, and all have this as the prj:

GEOGCS["GCS_North_American_1983",DATUM["D_North_American_1983",SPHEROID["GRS_1980",6378137.0,298.257222101]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0.0],UNIT["Degree",0.0174532925199433]]

I will try projecting to Lambert and see if that helps, as well as putting the shp on the desktop.

I projected the shp to lambert and it seems to be working now. Thanks for the suggestion!
