"Unable to access the analysis server" when I try to perform any spatial analysis function? I have read all the online help and seems to me that this is a developer issue? If so, can you please confirm and how can I fix this issue for my organization?

Hi Nicole,

What release of Portal for ArcGIS are you using?

FYI: the spatial analysis functionality in the Portal map viewer is available at the 10.4 or later releases.

Have you deployed a hosting server with your Portal? In other words, have you also installed a Server site that is federated with your Portal and also enabled the ArcGIS Data Store with your Server site?

Configure a hosting server—Portal for ArcGIS (10.4.1) | ArcGIS for Server

Hope this helps,

I am also having this problem. I'm running 10.4.1 and I have a federated environment. Server has an ArcGIS Data Store set up and Portal is configured with a hosting server.

Hi Ariana,

When you login to ArcGIS Server Manager, navigate to Services > System folder. Can you verify that the SpatialAnalysisTools GP service is running? Try restarting it.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Derek. The service was running and restarting didn't do anything. After some more digging we identified the root problem: I was trying to configure this on a client's server and they claim to use spatial analysis with another of their deployments, but they are currently running Server Standard and do not have the Spatial Analyst extension enabled!

Lesson learned - do not ever take your client's word for their software configuration; always double-check.
