Please restore ArcScripts

Anyone trying to visit http://arcscripts.esri.com is redirected to ArcGIS Code Sharing - but the old content from ArcScripts has not been ported across.

I get that ArcScripts is no longer active, but this does not mean that all of the content on ArcScripts is useless. There is many YEARS' worth of user contributions on ArcScripts, which will be lost if this resource is removed.

Esri - can you please remove the redirect on http://arcscripts.esri.com and just include a note telling people to check ArcGIS Code Sharing for up-to-date code?

thanks,

Steve

At the moment, the unscalable klunky solution is to contact Tech Support and ask them to search for you, or if you're missing something specific and you have the old URL, they can grab it and send it to you. This is very non-optimal, but I want to let everyone know that the entire old ArcScripts site still exists.

Both of your ideas are great and might provide a bit more workaround help in the interim. I'm looking into them now.

Jim(jbarry-esristaff),

I would like to second Rebecca Strauch, GISP proposal, some sort of lookup page with title and description and then a link to how to request it from ESRI. This seems to be the obvious solution. You clearly have no intention of reinstating the ArcScript site as code sharing site now exists and personally I'm happy with that. But there was an incredible amount of code on ArcScript and to loose that is a terrible waste and ultimately very unproductive and a negative impact on the GIS community. What about scientific journals that reference extensions on Arcscripts, people have no way of following up that research if they cannot obtain the extension/model? To say it's all there and accessible to ESRI staff is kind of good to hear but useless to the REST OF WORLD!

I remember whilst ArcScript was still alive a couple of years ago, discovering someones AML code (yes AML!) which I was able to review and ultimately convert into ArcObjects.

In my eyes there is a desperate need for some sort of web page that can be searched, even if it is a one off "dumb" static HTML page. If a particular tool is requested regularly then ESRI could move it to the code sharing website. Otherwise new contribution should be uploaded to code sharing.

This solution (and my reply) is way overdue. My apologies. We've pulled the database, will drop the items onto a server, and put a web page on top that can at least be page searched with your browser. On it now. Will be done asap.

Hello Jim,

Can I already have access to the web page to search for ArcView 3.x extensions?

If so, can you make the link available here?

Many thanks

Did webpage to access the old ArcScripts page get done? Seems like the thread ends.

I am desperately searching for an old user script for ArcView 3 called ASCII2RASTER2GRID 2.1.

It might have also been named as GridBatch.exe

Something that I used long ago...

I apologize for the delayed reply folks. The webpage for accessing old ArcScripts uploads is not yet available. Anything you're looking for, Esri Tech Support should be able to help you find if it still exists. They have access to it. As for the ASCII2RASTER2GRID, I'm in the ArcScripts database now and cannot find anything even similar to that, but I did find an AML-based script, attached. I'm still looking for the Avenue one you described, or anything even similar.

Ok folks, here's something else long overdue. The link below is a spreadsheet that contains a listing of the contents of the ArcScripts database when it was frozen in 2010 and pulled offline in 2016. If you see something in there you want, let me know (reply here, or direct message, or email jbarry at esri), or anyone in Tech Support. We can get it for you. The first column is the "Dbid" of the item which helps us find the item by filename. Also important to know that items between 13022-15629 are currently missing for reasons that might be related to why we needed to pull it down in 2016, as are some others in the list if they were deleted by the owner at some point after uploading them.

Thank you so much for your efforts in compiling the list.

What I need is the ESRI_Geologic_Mapping_Template_1.2.zip, AS16317.zip

with Dbid 16317 on the Excel file.

Best regards.

Here goes. Sorry for the inconvenience:

If you have any questions or issues with that utility, the owner's (Esri Cartography Team) email address is Map_Templates_feedback@esri.com
