LAS Dataset Point Thinning in ArcGIS Pro not available?

I'm using a countywide LAS Dataset in an ArcGIS Pro 1.3 local scene and have found the Point Thinning options on the Appearance tab greyed out. I'm able to symbolize the layer and filter points, but I'd like to control the number of points drawn. Could it be related to the layer's caching? The LAS Dataset is to keep the cache between sessions (default, I think). Any help is appreciated.

The Pro "Point Thinning" option in the "Appearance" Tab is not enabled in "scene" either in Global or Local view but is enabled in "Scene_2D" or "Map". Hope this helps to resolve your issue with the thinning option.

Ah, that is what is going on here.  Thank you William!

Thanks, William. By "Scene_2D," do you mean I somehow need to move the LAS Dataset under the scene's 2D layers? The software won't allow me to do this. The workaround appears to be to set my thinning options in a map and then copy and past the LAS Dataset into a scene's 3D layers.

No, I think William means that while in a 3D view of any sort you can't utilize Point Thinning. That's unfortunate because its the place I need it the most. 2D display of the points from overhead can be done on a wider range of hardware at 100% density. 3D view melts the graphics card on this Surface Pro 3.

I hope you guys can work thinning into the 3D renderer, LP360 in ArcDesktop & Fugro Viewer can both make beautiful visuals on this same rig.

This may be a dumb question, but does this functionality require a 3D Analyst extension? And do you have the 3D Analyst?
