Rumours abound... no confirmation by anyone... so if you have installed 10.5 (pre-release, release, future-wear, whatever), can you confirm the version of

  • python
  • numpy
  • scipy
  • matplotlib

Are there any new packages installed that you know of in the site-packages folder?

I don't want to waste my time anymore maintaining older versions of python and backporting functionality from 3 to 2.. I am beginning to know what a Cobol programmer felt like in Y2K.

I also presume they didn't go the Conda route as they did with Pro.

Is there a reason for this?  Why the separation of development in Map and Pro?

Does anyone know anyone with any insight into world of python and its kin and when there will be some unification of the family.

ArcGIS Pro is already using Python 3.5+, can you not work with those libraries?

On one hand, I don't see Esri moving ArcMap/ArcCatalog to Python 3.x; but on the other hand, Python 2.x is formally and finally retired in just under 3 years.  Is 3 years long enough for Esri to retire ArcMap/ArcCatalog?  Will we see an ArcMap 11 or will they ride the 10.x releases to the grave?

In summary, I wouldn't hold your breath for Python 3.x with ArcMap.

I just installed the beta version of Arc Pro 2.0 today and it installed

under 3.4. Fantastic that it is at 3.5 now!

No need for ArcMap and ArcCat to go to 3.5 and I agree, wouldn't think it

would be necessary or useful. 2.7 and 3.x seem to coexist fine.

Excited about the prospect of SQL Server 2017 with inMemory

workspace.

I must admit, I am a bit confused by your statement since I am running Pro 1.4.1 and it is packaged with Python 3.5.3, i.e., what do you mean the Pro 2.0 beta installed "under 3.4?"

SQL Server 2017 is very new, very, and it isn't officially supported with ArcGIS 10.5:  Microsoft SQL Server database requirements for ArcGIS 10.5—System Requirements | ArcGIS Desktop .  I won't be surprised if it isn't officially supported with 10.5.1 either since it takes some time for Esri to integrate a new product/version into their products.
