Attribute Assistant and Versioning

Is there an issue with the attribute assistant and versioning?
It appears that the attribuite assistant only works when I do not edit a version.
I must be directly editing the SDE tables.

This is supported as of November 2012 per Configure GenerateID table - Attribute Assistant | ArcGIS Solutions

This rule always grabs the last ID and increments it by 1.  What you are trying to do is not supported.
