I am trying to create an operation view of my data in dashboard, in the web map i set the refresh interval to 6 seconds (which is working fine),  when i try set the refresh interval in dashboard it doesn't refresh, any ideas why? I set the refresh interval in dashboard to 3 seconds using single refresh interval but the layer doesn't refresh. I even set the external layers to my feature and set it to dynamic but nothing is refreshing unless you drag the cursor every time across the dashboard.

Hi Aly,

If you set the refresh interval in the webmap, Operations Dashboard desktop app will automatically pick that up and you don't have to do any other configuration. If you notice on the data sources page, you'll see that layer is set to Dynamic instead of static.

Can you test this op view and see if the refresh is working? id:1cba6173e4a8491eae2ff0c965a080b4

I also have this question, however I am using the latest web browser version. I set the layer in the web map to refresh every 5 minutes, although I don't see any change over in Ops Dashboard. Is there any extra step that I am missing?

Hi Jared Schuckert‌,

Operations Dashboard should be respecting your refresh interval defined in the webmap. To trouble shoot, could you try increasing the refresh to 0.1 minutes? Save the map, refresh the dashboard, then edit a feature's location using the Map Viewer (or wait for your data to change). You should notice the change come through in the map of Operations Dashboard within 6 seconds. If not, perhaps there is a bug.

Something to note: in the Map Viewer and other apps, the layer flashes every time it refreshes. Operations dashboard uses a special technique to avoid the flashing when the layer refreshes.

Hope this helps

David,

Thank you for your reply. I am actually using the dashboard to monitor work orders so changes on the map are more difficult to ascertain than say vehicle tracking. After updating the refresh interval in the web map, I was expecting the "last updated _ minutes ago" in the bottom right of each dashboard element to not go past the interval threshold I had set. When I set it to 5 minutes I wouldn't expect to see 6, 7, 8 minutes and so forth as that indicates those aren't updating unless someone refreshes the app. Does the refresh interval only apply to the map element (if you have one) and not other elements such as charts and graphs?

Hi Jared,

Thank you for the additional details. You are right, the "last updated" text should not go past 5 minutes if that is what your refresh interval is set to on the layer (either on the layer item or the layer in the webmap). Yes, all visual elements using that layer should respect its refresh interval and update accordingly.

It is difficult to diagnose what is happening without seeing how the layer, map and dashboard are configured. I recommend you reach out to Support for more hands on help if this issue persists.

A few questions:

1. Are you using the layer from your map as the data source of your visual elements or using the layer item directly?

2. Are you able to share your layer/map/dashboard publicly? Please don't compromise any security protocalls, but if you able to share it I can take a closer look.

David,

Unfortunately I can not share my dashboard or participating services. I have the map element along with all the graphic elements pointing to the same layer within my map service. From what you are saying everything should honor the refresh interval, which is what I would expect, although are you actually seeing the last updated text also reflecting that on your end? I plan to run some additional tests as well.

Hello, I am also having the same issue. I already added the interval and the map is refreshing no problem. But there are other elements, like graphs and indicators that are not loading correctly.  The source is set to the layer itself.

Any help is welcome!

Thank you.

I also have this question!

I have a dashboard that uses a web map as a data source.  The web map uses a map image layer which was added to ArcGIS Online after being published on our local ArcGIS Server.  I've set the refresh on the layer in the web map to 6 seconds, as described above.  I then created the dashboard and added the web map, a "99!" indicator, and a gauge.  The last two use the layer from the map as their data source.

When I view the dashboard, the map refreshes every 6 seconds - great!

However, the other two elements don't refresh.  Have I configured them incorrectly?

I've shared the layer, map, and dashboard publicly for now, in the hope of getting some feedback.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Chris

Hi there, I've exactly the same issue with Portal 10.9.1

I see other people had that issue in the past but never got an answer to fix it.

Were you able to get your element refreshing ?

Thanks
