Hi,

I have updated Arcgis Server från 10.4.1 to 10.5. The installation in itself worked perfectly but when I entered the ArcGIS Server Setup I got this error message : "Upgrade step 2 of 2 : Failed. Synchronize with site".

I have uninstalled and installed Arcgis Server again but the same problem occurs.

The server have previously been updated from 10.3 to 10.4 to 10.4.1 without any problems. It is a Window 2012 server. There is also Arcmap 10.5 on the same machine as well as but it shouldn´t really make any difference?

This is our testserver and I use a EDN-licence. The license however does register without problems.

I´m not really keen on updating our production server until I know how to handle this error.

Any suggestions on how to approach this?

Arcgis server setup wizard error message

Thanks in advance

Jenny

Do the logs shed any more light on the problem?  This is a single machine site?

Hi Jonathan,

Yes, this is a single machine site and it is not federated or has ArcGIS Portal installed. The error logs unfortunately did not write anything of use. The last lines are

>Upgrade step 1 of 2 : Completed.</Msg>
<Msg time="2017-03-21T11:01:18,139" type="INFO" code="7702" source="Server" process="7312" thread="1" methodName="" machine="LTARCGISTEST.XXXXXX.XX" user="" elapsed="">Web server started successfully.</Msg>

Same problem on an a stand alone system with no web adaptor or portal Box.    The system was immediately previously running Server Advanced Enterprise 10.3.1 and GEP.  The initial instal failed.  All ESRI software was removed using programs and features in control panel and rebooted.  Install attempt 2 gives the same error.

There aren't any hostname changes involved, right?  You may want to reach out to Support to see if they can dig a bit deeper.

Hello,

The same problem happened to me when I upgraded from 10.4.1 to 10.5. Working with Support they figured out that I had an invalid credential in my security configuration. The credential was used as the principal user to access AD for web tier authentication and it's password had changed but had not been updated.

Support recommended the following:

"Rename the security store settings file to;
C:\arcgisserver\config-store\security\security-config_WINDOWS.json
and replace the original with the default one for BUILTIN then restarted the AGS service.
Then "Continue Server Upgrade" should work."

It did work!

If this is your problem you would then have to reconfigure your single sign on again after the upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Can you expand at all on support's recommendation? I found the security-config.json file and I can rename it, but I don't understand what you mean by replacing it with the default one for BUILTIN. Where did you find that file?

I am experiencing the same issue and have the same question as Amy. Where did you find that default one for BUILTIN file?

If it helps, I was able to isolate the issue to my own Windows username and password. We are required to change our login passwords at routine intervals, and I forgot to update it in Server Manager prior to the update. My old password was hard-coded into the configuration. I resolved our problem by asking our IT department reset my password to my previous one. Once the passwords matched, I was able to complete the upgrade.

In my case there is no password change so I do need to find that Builtin file so I can proceed. I did open up an ESRI ticket so hopefully I can get it resolved soon. Thanks.
