I am still new and have a few questions on ArcGis Explorer Online.

  1. There is a 1000 feature limit for imported data, if l need to import more than 1000 points what should l do? I am only using ArcGis Explorer Online and csv files.

  2. Querying Maps ??? I am trying to create queries using ArcGis Explorer Online from the data l have imported from a csv file but it tells me that there are no feature layers present in the map to define a query upon but l have a layer from csv file l have imported with data on it.

  3. Security Groups ??? is it possible to create groups with the free account so that l can share my maps to only specific people and not public.

  4. ArcGis for Mobile ??? is there an option to share my ArcGis Explorer Online maps to a mobile device (iOS, Android, Windows Phone etc..)

Please help. Thanks.

I am wondering the same thing, especially if the ability to query user upload files will be available anytime soon. Any information on this would be very very helpful. Thanks

1. The only way to get more features is if you either sign up for the organizational account or if you have a GIS server. What I did to circumvent the 1000 feature limit is divide my list up in smaller chunks.

2. I think you are only able to query hosted feature services, not the once you can upload for free.

3. With an update, they have released earlier this years, they have changed how groups work. You are no longer able to share maps with just group members, if you have the free account. You can only make the maps private or public to all. You need an organizational account to be able to share maps just with groups.

4. I think the only way to do this is opening your maps in a browser. Again if you have an organizational account you are able to open maps in the ArcGIS app.

I hope this helps!

First off thank you very much tim for your insight

Secondly i would like to clarify one thing if you are able to. I am able to upload data via ArcServer and was wondering what it would create a feature service. Is it as simple as hosting it on arcserver and then adding it to your content via 'add service' button, or is their additional steps. Ultimately i would like to upload a 20,000 point data set and have people without a subscription be able to add it and query it. So i am wondering what steps are needed to accomplish this. I have read all of the online tutorials exc. but hearing it in simpler terms always helps.

Thanks again

Carson,

sorry for the late reply! Yes if you have an Arc Server that can be accessed through the web, that's how you would add data to your map. I am not sure about querying the data, but the public would see your data. You could also give the public the link to your data and they could add it to any map they like.

As you said the steps are, publish your data -> use add service button and your done.

Hope this clears things!

Even I do have the same thinking about security groups. Can anyone put useful light over the discussion?

Olivia,

with the free account you can't create private groups. Meaning, either your data is visible to all or just visible to you. However with the paid account you can create private groups.

Hope this helps!
