On the items details page click the layers dropdown menu to access the Service URL.
Use this URL and your organization username and password to add the connection to ArcGIS Desktop applications.

So I am doing this on a per feature basis?  Do I need to have it shared to EVERYONE?

I was able to connect to the server here with this:  http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcGIS/services
this gave me a list of features to add from ESRI...how to I replicate this where I can add multiple features from my ArcGIS online account.  What i envisioned was to point to a WebMap or WebApplication and set the server connection there.  But it seems that I shoudl be pointing to individual services?  Can I point to all my services and get them in one connection?

I clicked the Services URL and it gave me this (i changed some of the text below)...I pasted this in the New Server Connection and it failed to connect.

The connection URL for ArcCatalog would be:

http://services2.arcgis.com/<idnumber>/arcgis

ArcGIS Explorer Desktop can not connect directly to the hosted server and does not support feature services.
There is support for adding webmaps from an organization, by using Search, but keep in mind that feature services in web maps will not display in ArcGIS Explorer.

I do thank you for your response and am not trying to be a pain here.  When you say that it cannot direct connect are you saying that its downloading a set of data to use locally?

I imported shapefiles up to ArcGIS Online.  It created a 'Shapefile' and 'Features' in my Org account....I used the 'Features' in my WebMap.  Am I correct to say that the 'Features' will not show up in ArcExplorer?  Do I have to reference the 'shapefiles' in Explorer?  I tried this and they were not available to add into the WebMap.  Is that the only way I can see how to store data in a different format...

Whats the IDNumber?

Is there somewhere I can go to get info on exactly what I need to do.  How to get data into Org Account where it will be accessible from ArcExplorer?  As I referenced in my prior post I would like to mimic the arcgis connection.  What format are they stored in in ArcGIS online?

Thanks

You can open a Web map in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop.
Do this via the Search Window.  be forewarned That webmap support in ArcGIS Explorer desktop is limited.  The feature functionality of the ArcGIS online infrastructure has increased and developed rapidly and continues to do so and ArcGIS Explorer desktop will not be able to keep up with the new developments.

For local data storage on ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop works best with Layer Packages.  Although webmaps can't make use of the layer packages..  (ArcGIS Services are the data choice if you need some thing that works well in both.)

This youtube video explains the basics.  http://youtu.be/cP8rKzz4qhM for working with ArcGIS Layer packages, ArcGIS Explorer desktop and ArcGIS online.
