Hi,

Had a quick search for an answer, but couldn't find anything relevent, so i hope someone can help.

When I go to select a basemap, there are none there to select. Weird.

Attched is an image of what it looks like. The only reason I have a basemap is that my saved default map is using the Bing basemap.

I had this problem with build 1200 also (but 900 worked fine).

Any advice would be much welcomed.

Having somewhat of the same problem, I have basemaps to choose from in the menu but nothing loads. I get a blank screen no matter what map i want to look at. Had the same problem with 1200 but 900 worked fine.

can you access this URL?  http://www.esri.com/software/basemaps/basemaps.xml

Starting with version 1200, the basemaps are pulled from the URL.

Is there a solution to this problem?   If ArcGIS Explorer gets the basemaps from a URL address does this mean that it checks this at startup and if you are behind a proxy this becomes a problem?

Do you see the thumbnail image for the basemap if you enter this url?

http://www.esri.com/software/basemaps/basemap2.png

Since you can see the XML at the basemap location, maybe you have something in place on your network that blocks the downloading of files?

basemap2.nmf is at the same location.

All of the basemaps reference their data from http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services
If you try adding the ArcGIS Server mapservice from http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services does that work?

Add Content - GIS Services - New Server Connection

Hey guys,

I seem to be having the same problem as Adam, with the basemaps not loading. I've tried it on a few different PC setups, and noticed that it seems to work fine on WinXP and Win7 32bit PCs, but not on WinXP 64bit.
I was wondering what you guys are running AGX1500 on?

Cheers,
Martin

I've got a similar problem, no "Basemaps" showing, however I can link and add content from the Add Content>GIS Services...>http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services

Everything I add views great, but I still get no Basemaps, which are from the same service ....

??

Thanks

Found my solution. I'm running dual monitors, and Express needs to run on the main display on my machine/video card. ArcMap will run on either, so not real obvious ...
