Have you tried just adding OR Table.PARID IS NULL OR Table.ADDR IS NULL to your where clause, respectively, instead of wildcards?

I'm not sure you can do that. You are referring to the footprints in the open street map basemap?

Are you saying that the field is a text field with both alpha and numeric values inside? If that is the case, then you would need to either select for maximum based on another field, or extract numeric data from this field to use for selecting a highest value. A text field is just text, there is no inherent hierarchy. You could pull the numeric portion of that field out using LEFT () or RIGHT() and use that to find the MAXIMUM () value, assuming that the numeric portion of the field indicates a highest value.

Like all research, the results are only as good as the data that was collected. I would first find quality, reliable, non-controversial data (facts) to use before moving forward. Do some research on how justice departments define racial profiling. Figure out how profiling events are recorded. Get some answers on how and why profiling is used. Where are the databases? Who has access to them? What kind of data is captured? What is your hypothesis and/or story-line? What types of profiling events will you be examining and why? If you come up with some interesting data, people might be inclined to participate. I think your original intention is a bit vague. You stated you want to make a map showing where the police use racial profiling, but how do you intend to do that? and why? and who is your audience? If you haven't conducted any research yet, how do you know large scale profiling events have in fact occurred? And if you discover that they have, what point are you making exactly? That it is detrimental? That is leads to riots? That it is a symptom of something else. Just events alone doesn't produce a captivating story. What are the facts showing the viewer? I'm not sure media reporting is an accurate and factual resource to use for something like this. Media reports are often inaccurate, particularly early on in an event, and are glamorized to sell advertisement space. Not a great reference. It could be an interesting story map, depending on who your intended audience is and the quality of the data you use.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the purpose of such a map? How would you collect data and ensure it is accurate, fair, and valid? I think setting out to establish a map to depict racial profiling will likely produce skewed results. You can create a map to depict anything you wish, which is the nature of statistical data. How would you define large racial profiling events?

Hello Audrey. Unless something has changed, you need to use Photoshop or Gimp or something similar to add this type of symbology to a map. I'm interested to hear if anyone else has a better way!

I have an existing service and service definition file that I need to update based on changes to resources that our field crews input daily, but I cannot figure out a way to automate this process using the Server tools toolbox. I am trying to use the Upload SD tool. Under service definition, I navigated to the SD file I created, pointed it to the correct server, and under Override Service Properties (I am assuming this is where you can override an existing service), I entered the service name to override, set the folder type to existing, etc. When I run the tool, however, I get an error message saying that the service already exists. Has anyone used successfully used overwritten an existing service with this tool?

Thanks for the reply Michael. Looks like I will need to do some automation then to get the data copied into the proper format.

The tables I want to register are not on SDE, they are housed in another database on our SQL server. Is that possible?

(bump) I'm having the same issue, more or less, except that I simply want to register the standalone SQL table without copying it to the server. I've tried registering the two tables that sit in another database on our SQL server through ArcGIS Server Manager, but it doesn't like the file path. The tables can grow rather large, depending on daily work flows so I do not want to copy them to the GIS Server. Does anyone have advice on registering standalone tables from another database?
