I am Bonnie Bracey Sutton, a retired educator working in the community space of the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly in SW Washington , DC. I recently have completed NatGeo's online course using a bunch of field trip experiences I had with students to the Baltimore Aquarium, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center | Understanding Ecosystems for a Sustainable Future , and using this lesson Watersheds 101 | Ecosystems on the Edge and a hands on lesson Group Programs | Smithsonian Environmental Research Center , Shoreline Connection with students who had no experience in environmental science. It was the fight of my life to get this done. No one was interested in science or the environment in leadership in the council housing, but SW BID, did an activity at the Duck Pond that was the beginning of the study of ponds, rivers , and estuaries that we followed at the pond, then on the Potomac and then on the river at SErc. We loved this video. The Science of Where https://images.app.goo.gl/ACLswhwnsZuc6vno7 Most of the children did not know much about water, watersheds, estuaries or GIS, so we began to study the Chesapeake Bay and how we are a part of the watershed. The National Botanical Ga We built a town and studied watershed runoff.. and saw some GIS imagining after storms.at the National Botanical Gardens. We studied using lessons from MWEES. https://doee.dc.gov/page/meaningful-watershed-educational-experiences-mwees Department of Energy & Environment We used maps and resources on the internet and GIS location to explore, explain and examine the Chesapeake Bay https://www.nationalgeographic.org/topics/resource-library-watershed/?q=&page=1&per_page=25 https://www.nationalgeographic.org/hires/sea-level-climate-change-and-chesapeake-bay/ I had no funds and no one was interested so I found a couple of resources in a grant from the youth activities task force part of SWNA.( Southwest Neighborhood assembly) Our final field trip was to the Baltimore Aquarium. Such joy they had . We used GIS, Geography, History and we had an Eat a Crab Lab. The children loved their map collection, the use of GIS and the learning about rivers to the sea. I can not begin to share how difficult it was to do these trips. Churches and SWNA made it possible. I could do a lot better if connected to an organization. This was for me a must do set of trips. I did not have access to students. DC Schools the public schools are difficult to work with. How do I get to do this work in DC?

I am working with a Native American who does not know much about ESRI. I need her permission to work with tribals. Joseph offered the book, that will show her some examples, but are some of you working with tribes and have examples to share that I can point her to? @

Since T3G I have fallen into the history of several topics and they are so fascinating that I have not completed a map. I live in SW Washington, DC and have for many years. I taught in Arlington, Va for 30 years. Over time my SW community was built and now is in new renewal stages. I thought I remembered the way it was until I found this. http://www.dchistory.org/uploads/exhibits/Bulldozer-and-the-Rose.pdf There is so much in the picture that I never knew. I remembered the Fish Market mostly. We would go there in the summer. I blogged about Alexandria, Virginia where I lived. The city was Colonial, and of George Washington's time. There is Black History information, as well there are scattered books that tell what the estates, or plantations , or grand homes used to be.The city has VisitAlexandriaVA.com Alexandria Va Hotels & Things to Do | Old Town Alexandria and the site says..".On the Potomac River within eyesight of Washington, DC, Alexandria, VA is nationally recognized for its rich history and beautifully preserved 18th- and 19th-century architecture - an extraordinary backdrop for acclaimed, chef-driven restaurants; a thriving boutique scene; vibrant arts and culture; and a welcoming, walkable lifestyle. Alexandria is the relaxed and refined home base for your DC vacation and an unforgettable getaway of its own. "There used to be a Wednesday tea at the Lee Mansion during the school year. in one of the Lee houses, John L. Lewis of the Coal Miners Union resided my friend's father was his chauffer. I did not see anything about the little houses that lined the alleys?Do you know how I could find out what they were? The whole city seems to have become gentrified. Did you know that their used to be a Polar Bear Custard stand just near the entrance to the city? They were only there during the spring and summer. The Rolling Stones played at the Ice Skating Rink that used to be nearby. Any pictures anyone? Arlington is easier because with the National Geographic I made a video of the county , and of the school. Indian? Four Mile Run.. Black? Halls Hiil and Johnson Hill....The school that I loved the most and where I taught was a dairy farm.and their used to be a hill that kids sledded down during winter snowstorms. Arlington is a place of history too.The Syphax family were descendants of Robert E.Lee's slaves. I never knew that , never understood their acceptance in the Arlington Community as equals. Arlington too, defied the state and integrated their schools. I actually integrated an elementary school, ie. first Black teacher in a White school. A Tale Of Two Virginias: When Arlington Defied The State And Integrated Its Public Schools : NPR One One way we keep Arlington memories alive is on Facebook. We post pictures of our favorites places and of our personal history, and of special events. Arlington's Internet face contains lots of geoinformation https://www.arlingtonva.us . Explore. How does your community tell its story, preserve its history, and map its progress?

Thank you for such a detailed answer. I did try to reply earlier but I got a box with a moving bar in the middle and so I am using the Email to answer. I am learning to clean the cache. I have written down the log ins though I saved them and can see them when I log in but adm says that they had a problem. That was very helpful to me. Now I just have to start over but will do so with the same passion that I started with. It has been a long tech day for me. I was at a conference at Verizon where they explained their EP3 privacy network and so on the architecture of how various sign ins work and maybe I should have just relaxed and logged in a bit later. Thank you so much. Bonnie Bonnie Bracey Sutton 230 G Street , SW Washington, DC 20024 202 285 3343

Thank you. I think I guess when I make a mistake and I am here alone , so frustrating no one to ask and then I just decided to ask. What a relief with the answers that came in. The whole Mac vs PC thing is always a pain. So many were helpful. I got several great answers and found that there were others who had a problem/ and that administration was aware of the problem. I am content driven and not a tech specialist. I always get pretty upset when technology does not work so the difference in being online is softened by the time that people took to help me. Thank you all.

Well I have been defeated by technology today. I have downloaded the apps, that we are studying especially Survey 123 but.. in spite of the advice, though I have done the lessons and followed instructions. No log in. I can't log into anything but ESRI.com I thought that was bad, but now I cannot even log into Geonet. This morning I was studying the architecture of privacy so I get why the log ins are complicated but..This is what I get https://community.esri.com/login.jspa It says it is going to log in, but. .. it does nothing. The same thing happens on the apps when I get ready to sign in.??? It says it is going to sign in but it does nothing.I did change the sign in and that worked for awhile.. but then no Geonet. I did have fun organizing my data from an interesting book. Precious Cargo. This is kind of based on the "Seeds of Change" How Foods from the Americas changed the world. There is so much on food on social media, I thought that would be a good quiz Peanuts Potatoes Pineapples Hot Peppers Corn ( Zea Maize) Then I was going to make a map. Ever heard of a Pineapplearium? How many kinds of potatoes do you know about? Peanuts in gold? I need to put this survey up. Bonnie Help please!!! Bonnie Bracey Sutton 230 G Street , SW Washington, DC 20024 202 285 3343

I will either be working with a grant or a community serving organization. I have not set up anything yet, but will. I am in limbo on the grant, but do have the community organization where I will be teaching in SW , Washington. The school system is in Virginia where we are seeking a grant.
