Incredibly late reply but it turned out that in the maps there was a photo key that on the files that were slow had the images saved as part of the map instead of just the link. Changing this made all the difference.

Sorry I seemed to have spoken too soon. Save a Copy only worked on one of the files. I have opened the "Results" tab but there currently appears to be no results stores which makes sense as I haven't ran an analyis on there maps and only have a period of 1 day to keep results.

I've created a number of maps that I need to e-mail to a co-worker who does not share a network with me. E-mailing is limiting the size of the files that I can send. While majority of the file there is no issue, a few of the files are significantly larger than the others (160,000KB- 260,000KB versus 1-7KB) and is preventing me from sending them even in a compressed folder. What is strange is that all the maps contain the same layers but are displaying different geographic locations. The scale and resolution is also the same. I'm wondering if there may be anything else that is causing this difference in file size. Thanks

The folder connection was there but for some reason the .lpk file did appear when I used to add data button.

Hi Sephe, I created it by seecting all the required layers in the table of contents and basically followed the steps in this article http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00s500000013000000 and selected Save package to file.

I've created a layer package and would like to be able to add its contense to a map in ArcMap. I have tried opening it using the Add Data button but the layer file does not appear where I have saved it. However I am able to open the layer through my computer's file directory but that creates a new map which would basically force me to start over. Basically what I want to know is how do I open this layer package to be used in an existing map?

Thanks Xander Bakker, I guess my main issue was in the line: arcpy.Array([arcpy.Point(*coords) for coords in feature]),arcpy.SpatialReference(factoryCode))) where factoryCode was an input Coordinate system from the user of this script. I was hoping to have the code so I can create the polygons with a different spatial without having to open the scrip everytime. Here is a better example of what I am triing to do. import arcpy
arcpy.env.overwriteOutput = True
inputWorkspace = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(0)
outputName = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(1)
factoryCode = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(2) #input Coordinate System
coordList = [[[1, 2], [2, 4], [3, 7]],
[[6, 8], [5, 7], [7, 2], [9, 5]]]
features = []
sr = arcpy.SpatialReference(factoryCode)
for feature in coordList:
features.append(
arcpy.Polygon(
arcpy.Array([arcpy.Point(*coords) for coords in feature]), sr))
arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(features, outputName)

Hello, I am working on a script that produces a polygon grid from a series of irregularly spaced points (hence why I can't use fishnet). I have managed to produce the desired grid but am unable to assign a spactial reference to the grid. I have tried a number of ways such as assigning a Spactial Reference. I've tried to assign it to the individual points using a for loop: PointsList=[] for n in coordList: array=[] for coords in n: point=arcpy.Point(coords[0],coords[1]) ptGeometry=arcpy.PointGeometry(point,arcpy.SpatialReference(factoryCode)) array.append(ptGeometry) PointsList.append(array) features = [] for feature in PointsList: #Create a Polygon object based on the array of points #Append to the list of Polygon objects features.append( arcpy.Polygon( arcpy.Array(*corner)) for corner in feature) arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(features, outputName) Or to the polygon durring its construction: features = [] for feature in coordList: # Create a Polygon object based on the array of points # Append to the list of Polygon objects features.append( arcpy.Polygon( arcpy.Array([arcpy.Point(*coords) for coords in feature]), arcpy.SpatialReference(factoryCode))) arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(features, outputName) But both ways are giving me a runtime error. I was wondering if it would be best to first create a feature class and then creat my polygons but I don't know how to write polygons to feature classes in python. If someone could provide guidance it would be much apprechiated.
