I have been using this tool to eliminate sliver gaps between polygons with a Standard ArcMap 10.7.1 license since I am unable to use the Eliminate tool available with the Advanced license. This appeared to be working fine but all of a sudden it stopped allowing me to begin the trace. As soon as I clicked on the reference feature it bounced back to the main tool dialog box. It appears to be temporarily hanging up the tool or the data processing as it began working again a few hours later then stopped again and would not work. I tested with other map documents and gdb datasets and nothing points to an obvious culprit. I am wondering if the "routine" is sensitive to how often you "close" the tool or save edits? Has anyone found this tool to crash like this if you are trying to process a large number of gap alignments before doing a new alignment session or before doing edit saves? I have not found any documentation that covers this issue and have followed the tool directions closely

I tried your suggestion Chris and it worked as you described. I am now able to see all the gaps as polygons within the final Erase workaround output file. Thanks!

Chris, I plan to check out the Overlay tools and specifically the Union tool that Dan mentioned. You mentioned and provided a link to the Erase workaround solution. Thanks for that. I assume you were just providing this as additional information on the overall Overlay toolset, since this particular tool would not be helpful with my specific question and need.

When I did this, I had expected and hoped the new clipped polygon layer to have new empty polygons where there was a gap between the original parcel borders and the new outside clipping border. Instead, it ignored the clipping border and established the clip border at the original parcel outside borders. Is there anyway to accomplish this as I had hoped and with a Standard License?

Peter-- What I meant was can one use the rotate, scale and shift tools then fine tune with a transformation using control links?

Can you use the tools to get a raster closely aligned to a target raster then do a transformation, e.g., 1st order polynomial? I know you can't go the other way once you create a least one control link.

Helping a community explore transitioning from paper tax parcels to a digital parcel layer for future parcel edits and tax map production. They might be interested in the future moving to a broader use of this and other community data--perhaps taking advantage of the ArcGIS for Local Government. Their priority/budget is focused on the former. I see that they could apparently go two ways, one is to create a custom parcel fabric with their own "Local Information Model" and then use the ESRI Parcel Editor/Fabric tools to do the above parcel editing and mapping work. The other appears to "enable" the ESRI Local Government Information Model. The latter looks much more complex and complicated than the former. What experience do folks have with these two methods and advantages? If they didn't choose to enable the LGIM at first would they be able to relatively easily covert into the LGIM at a later date? Also, does anyone have experience using the Land Records maps and apps in the ArcGIS for Local Government? I have not been able to easily find out whether the Local Government is an extension or what? Thanks for your thoughts.

This is a big help but the document information that you linked says that the metadata shown only applies to the "best" imagery at that location (usually the one at smallest scale--zoomed in). You seemed to imply that one could also see the metadata for the larger scale(s) imagery at the same location. That would be ideal.

Is there a way to view the date of the ESRI World Atlas Imagery that appears in the Basemap Layer when viewed for an area in ArcGIS Online or Explorer for Desktop?

Thanks for the response. I am dealing with creating a new polygon within an existing one in the same feature layer. I followed your last paragraph and that does create the polygons but my problem has been getting the new acres to be correct. At first, when the new feature is completed, the attribute table will have the same acres for both polygons, In the past, the original larger polygon acreage has not been reduced in the amount of the new included polygon. Today in trying this, it seemed to work when I kept the edit session open and had both polygon rows selected and then "calculated geometry" and the correct acres appeared. So, hopefully, I'm in business!
