Hello Paul, You only need licensing for Named users. You can publish Maps with Anonymous access, and if your end customer's access this service without logging in, then there wouldn't be any licenses consumed. Secured services would require a named user, and thus could potentially require at least one named user. Portal, for all practical purposes, is ArcGIS Online that is hosted internally. If you can do it without a license in ArcGIS Online, you should be able to do it without a license in Portal. I hope that helps. Thank you very much, Justin Rodriguez Esri Support

Hello Marvin, I hope you are doing well. WMS should be compatible with Basic Authentication. Here is an article that explains it pretty well: ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2) I hope that helps. Thanks, Justin Esri Support

Hello Paul, I hope you are doing well. Portal for ArcGIS and Server for ArcGIS are both pretty RAM intensive products. As such I would not suggest that they are on the same virtual guest or virtual host for that matter. Please separate the machines as much as possible to ensure maximum resource availability. You can install them all on the same machine, and it would be fine, but I would split them if I could. Simply turning on IIS and putting a web adaptor on the machine shouldn't be an issue, but I wouldn't try to install these products on a full blown web server hosting multiple applications if I could avoid it as well. I do not believe there is a specific installation order as these products are independent of each other. I hope these answers help a bit. Thanks- Thank you, Justin Esri Support

Hello Everyone, Sometimes this issue can be caused by your trusted sites. ArcGIS Catalog will respect the WinInet Options. I suggest adding the following lines to your trusted sites: *note: If you can, uncheck the box that states 'Require Server Verification...' Go to Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites and select the 'Sites Button' Add the following URLS: http://www.arcgis.com http://*.arcgis.com This will correct this issue for some customers. You can use web debugging tools, such as Fiddler, to troubleshoot these kinds of issues as well. I hope this helps. Thank you very much- Justin Esri Support

Hello Susan, We do not have a 'Best Practices' document that I know of, but even if we did, it would probably look more like our resources page. Have a look at this online documentation: What is ArcGIS for Server?—Documentation (10.3 and 10.3.1) | ArcGIS for Server There is a menu on the left hand side, and multiple tabs at the top. It has a lot of useful information, and is what we usually rely on here in support. I hope that helps. Thanks again, Justin

Hello Susan, Thank you for the reply. I would be more than happy to further clarify point three. In this scenario, the Machine (either a physical machine or virtual machine) is short on resources (such as RAM or Processing Power). What I am suggesting is, instead of adding more resources to the machine, you may free up additional resources by moving other software that is heavily dependent on the resources (either RAM or Processing Power). Some examples of Resource Intensive software is: MSSQL, Microsoft Exchange, Domain Controllers, Network Monitoring Systems, and much more. In short, what I am suggesting is to ensure you aren't stifling your servers performance by simply forcing it to compete for resources with another program. If you think that might be the case, move one of the programs. Thank you very much, Justin

Hello Everyone, I have read through this thread, and it seems that everyone is experiencing similar symptoms, but there could be several different problems here. I would like to first point everyone to this document: Anticipating and accommodating users—Documentation (10.3 and 10.3.1) | ArcGIS for Server Please monitor and adjust your resources as needed. If the ArcGIS for Server is running slowly, but resources are not being strained, then there is probably an issue with the way the services are configured. Adding more instances of heavily used services to allow for more resource usage might be the solution. If the Server (VM Guest or Physical Machine) is being strained on resources, then the System Admin/GIS Admin must discuss what the best course of action would be: 1. Add more resources to the machine (either RAM or Processing power depending on the resource constraint) 2. Set the instances of services lower -The issue with setting the instances lower is that the ArcGIS for Server might perform slower 3. Move resource heavy programs to another machine. - A common issue is that programs compete for resources. MSSQL is heavy RAM intensive, and so is ArcGIS for Server. In general, we would not recommend for them to be installed on the same machine. Any resource heavy program can cause an issue though. Either move ArcGIS for Server, or the other programs. 4. *This would be specific to a virtualized environment* The issue could be the Host Machine running the Guests, or the physical machine running the virtual machines, could be constrained for resources. This is a similar issue to number three, but harder to detect. Ensure that the host machine running ArcGIS for Server does not have other Virtual guests possibly hogging the other system resources. If the server is still acting up, and you believe the resources are indeed sufficient, and you have examined the other issues mentioned above, please contact ESRI Support. There could be an issue related to our software. We are always striving to improve the way our software works, and would love the chance to review and correct the issue you are seeing, or even improve the way our program works. Just as our User Community is always finding new and unique ways to use our product, we are looking for the newest and most efficient ways build our product to handle these new workflows and technologies. Thank you all very much!! Justin Esri Support

Hello Nick, Thank you for the reply. Esri Maps for Office, and all of the other 'Esri Maps for' products, require an ArcGIS Online Organization. A simple ArcGIS Global Account would not work. You can simply create a free trial of an organization if you'd like. I would recommend against converting your existing account into an Organizational trial though. If you do that, and choose not to continue using the Organization account at the end of the trial, all of the maps associated with your account could be lost. So please create a new account for the trial. Thank you very much- Justin

Hello Andy, The errors you are providing above seem to be indicating a possible issue with the SharePoint site itself more than with our Plugin. Please refer to the following Microsoft Document: Deployment error "The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site" I believe working with your SharePoint Admin on this issue might be more beneficial. Please let us know if there is anything more we can help with. Thanks- Justin

Hello, It seems like there is an issue with your SharePoint Site. Please try to create a blank site and see you can add it there. There is one bug that you might be running into though. If you had SharePoint 2010, and upgraded to SharePoint 2013, there is a good chance that your SharePoint Site is still running with the SharePoint 2010 template. There is a bug preventing us from installing on Sites with the SharePoint 2010 Experience: BUG-000086920 : Installer fails for SP2013 on sites created with 2010 experience

Hello Everyone, A spinning wheel can be caused by multiple issues, but there are a couple of common ones. The most important thing is to add the entirety of the environment to your trusted sites list. Here is a Microsoft Article on how to add stuff to your trusted sites list: Security zones: adding or removing websites - Windows Help I suggest you add the following: http://<YourSharepointSite> http://www.arcgis.com http://la.arcgis.com http://<YourPortalSite>/<WebAdaptor> << if applicable Thanks- Justin
