I am looking for data for a map project in Peru. Specifically I am looking for: - watersheds, streams, rivers, lakes - elevation or hillshade - roads - spot heights - populated places Data at about 50K and 1M would be ideal. Thanks!

You may also select spatial join with the right-click TOC join. It is a drop-down.

It sounds like this might be a problem in how the spatial relationship between the county and regions is defined - counties that are on the border of regions may be being selected and causing the overcounting. If you are using the Spatial Join tool, you are given a choice on how to define what should be joined (e.g. intersects, contains, is within a distance of). I believe the 'right-click' from TOC spatial join just uses intersect as default. You might want to take a look at which counties are select using 'completely contain' option. I sometimes run the 'select by spatial location' to check out what would be joined with each option as sometimes it is hard to conceptualize. Hope that this helps. Kristin

Thanks so much for your reply. Found the setting for anonymous access. I just tried to access using the www. replacement and this works fine however does not load the base maps (perhaps just very slow?). This is not really important for my map, just curious. Thanks again!

I am new to using ArcGIS online, so I hope you'll excuse this rather simple question. I am trying to share my newly created map with non-GIS users. I've used ArcGIS Online for uploading my data, and configured pop-ups in ArcGIS Explorer(different formatting of graphs). When I go to share my map in either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Explorer Online as a URL link I am redirected to the sign-in page of ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Explorer Online. Map is shared as public. I am able to share the map as HTML embeded in a webpage, however only if I use ArcGIS Online to grab the HTML tag. This would be fine however I lose my graph formatting. Using the HTML tag from ArcGIS Explorer Online will again ask me to sign-in before viewing the map. Is there a way to share my map directly by URL (or HTML), keep my ArcGIS Explorer Online formatting, and not have to ask my client to create an ArcGIS Online account or join my organization?

I would like to display attribute info as a graph pop-up. My data is of an annual count of a species, for each polygon unit, over a 30 year time frame. I am just getting started with ArcGIS Online I have a few questions that I would appreciate help with. 1. There are gaps in the time data for several polygon units. I think I will need to import data as a .csv to maintain <null> values for these entries. How will <null> entries show in the ArcGIS graph? 2. There does not appear to be any way to add labels to the graph axis or format the graph. Am I missing something? I did find this article on adding more complex charts with Google Chart API http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2010/01/11/adding-charts-and-graphs-to-note-popups-using-html/ which looks great, however my map/graph is fairly simple and this is perhaps beyond my needs/capabilities. I have not used the ArcGIS Explorer SDK before (the article suggests using it to obtain the information for the graph from ArcGIS Online). I would be extremely grateful if anyone knows a simple workflow for using the Google Chart API to read data from ArcGIS online and create nice looking graphs. Or if there is just a much simpler workflow altogether. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I've been exploring SAC for some project data and just came across this line in the Moran's I tool help page: "The input field should contain a variety of non-negative values." http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisengine/java/Gp_ToolRef/spatial_statistics_tools/spatial_autocorrelation_morans_i_spatial_statistics_.htm Could someone please help to explain this requirement? My thoughts are that maybe the tool does not use the absolute value for the variance between data points? I am trying to look at hot/cold spots in trend data (% change per year) which does have negatives. I could add a positive value to the input field to get positive values (i.e. add the minimum negative value to all data points) however I'm not sure how this would affect my results. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Kristin

Got it! I ended up installing R 2.12.1 with RPy ver 1 in Python 2.7. Not sure if it was the version or path names that were the issue. Anyways, thanks for reading!

Any Hello, Does anyone know what versions of RPy, R, and Python are compatible? I'm hoping to access RPy for a small, but important, part of a project. I have R 2.1.5.2, Python 2.7.2 in ArcGIS 10.1, and RPy (ver1). I am trying to install RPy2 to give that a try, however could only find a source code version and have never compiled software. Here's my error:
>>> import rpy
Runtime error
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
File "C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.1\lib\site-packages\rpy.py", line 136, in <module>
""" % RVERSION)
RuntimeError: No module named _rpy2152
RPy module can not be imported. Please check if your rpy
installation supports R 2.15.2. If you have multiple R versions
installed, you may need to set RHOME before importing rpy. For
example:
>>> from rpy_options import set_options
>>> set_options(RHOME='c:/progra~1/r/rw2011/')
>>> from rpy import *
I've followed the instructions at http://rpy.sourceforge.net/rpy/README and have: o Python o R o Numeric (http://numpy.sf.net) o win32all, windows extensions from Mark Hammond (http://starship.python.net/crew/mhammond/win32/Downloads.html) o As well as RTools And have set my path variable as instructed here: http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/28366/using-rpy2-in-arcgis Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Hi Andrea, It sounds like you might be able to use hot spot analysis with some data prep. The help topic gives and explanation of using the 'fishnet tool' or a spatial join to get a count of points within a grid or local area. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//005p00000011000000

Hello, I am working to get a time series trend. I have data over a 30 year stretch for fixed polygon locations. I'm not really trying to look at anything spatially just yet, I've just been looking at getting a trend value for each polygon and then plan to look at what spatial patterns there may be. I have a model built with the OLS tool where I am splitting up polygons to run the OLS on each set (i.e. my stationary time series data) and then appending the stats parameters to an output table to join back to the spatial extent. It works, but it is not at all an elegant process. I will need to run this analysis again and hoping to simplify. It seems that the GWR tool should be able to give me a coefficient value for each polygon if I ask it to consider the local area for the calculation as the polygon extent for my stationary data. I've tried this using a small fixed bandwidth, however it will not work. Any suggestions for a better work flow for this? Or just a good alternative?

Thanks so much for the python help! I was able to get the code working using the array rather than the left, mid functions. Here's the code I used: Expression:RemoveZero(!M_U_!):
def RemoveZero(txtstr):
txtList = list(txtstr)
if (txtList[2] == '0'):
txtList2 = txtList[0], txtList[1], txtList[3]
txtstr = ''.join(txtList2)
return txtstr
else:
return txtstr
And of course I was using the wrong parser for the !<your fieldname>![0:2] + !<your fieldname>![-1:] expression. It works fine and I'm sure will come in handy. Thanks, Kristin

Thanks for the link. I wasn't able to get the code you suggested to work though. It doesnt return errors, just simply does not update the text. My problem is a little more complex as well - only some entries have a zero in the third position. e.g. 1-01 should be 1-1 however 1-10 needs to remain 1-10. I tried to write a Python code block in the field calculator to attempt to return the characters at 1,2, and 4, only if there is a 0 at character 3, however I have been having trouble getting the syntax for using field names and understanding when to use [ ], ! or ( ). (This code returns parse error at line 2). Expression: RemoveZero( !M_U_!) Code: def RemoveZero( M_U_): if left ([ M_U_], 3) = 0: return left ([ M_U_], 1,2) + Mid ([ M_U_], 4, 1) Any suggestions are much appreciated!
