Hi Randall, Thanks for the suggestion. It seems a little out of my wheelhouse, can I trouble you for a bit more information on how I could accomplish this? I took a look at the web.config file, but I didn't see a system.net element. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm curious if there is a way to test that a service is properly responding to requests on a single machine in a cluster? We currently run ArcGIS 10.2. We have 3 GIS servers in the default cluster, lets call them server 1, server 2, and server 3 for simplicity. We have one server (server 4) that has the web adapter installed and handles all of the REST requests from our business system. I have found instances where one of the servers would not be responding to requests. If a request was sent to the web adapter server, the result could be good, or it could result in an error if the request was sent to the server that was not responding to requests. Is there a way to send a request to one of the servers specifically to ensure it is responding? My intentions are to develop some scripting tools to alert us when a service or server is not responding, allowing us to take the appropriate action. Thanks, Dennis

Hi Everyone, I have an issue that I am trying to solve, and I just can't seem to make any progress. I am still fairly new to ArcGIS and self taught so far, so please bear with me. We have several clients who all work in a given area, for simplicity, lets say a county. Each client will have their own transportation vehicles that they use within their county. I am trying to develop a web map (or app) that allows the user to toggle clients on/off and have stats on the county reflect according to their selection. For example, take the following data:
Client 1 Client 2
County 1: 5 10
If the user selected County 1 with only the Client 1 layer visible, I would want the count to say 5, but if both the Client 1 and Client 2 layers are visible, i would want the count to say 15. Is this possible? If so, can someone point me in the right direction? Even if this isn't possible with AGO, some direction to the right solution would be appreciated. Thanks, Dennis

Hi Joe, Thanks for the help. I'm using the USA Geocoding locator that came built into the Arc software. As far as our data goes, i'm a little stumped, I understand what you are saying, but no matter which way I feed the info into Arc, I get the same results. For example, if I open ArcMap and do a find on any address in St Louis, it returns a match on St Louis and Saint Louis. Alternatively, if I do a find on any address in Saint Louis, it returns a match on St Louis and Saint Louis. Because it is returning both results, I don't think editing the data will help me, I would assume there is some way within Arc to do this and I just don't know how :).

I am trying to work out a way to have ArcGIS only return full city names instead of abbreviated city names. For example, SAINT LOUIS instead of ST LOUIS, etc. Right now it is returning both, but our system only uses the full name, so if a user selects the abbreviated name, it causes issues. I have done quite a bit of digging and found some places that talked about editing a .CLS file, I attempted this, but to no avail; I must have been doing something wrong because all of the edits I made to those files didn't take, it acted as if I had made no changes at all. I then found some information about alternate names tables, but I can't seem to get it to work for cities, only streets. Is it possible to use an alternate name table for cities? The information I could find about alternate name tables in general was very vague. We are using the locators and street data that came with the street map data from ESRI. Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, Please forgive my ignorance as I am very new to ArcGIS and trying to learn as I go along :). I am trying to create a route between two facilities, but was getting an error saying that one of the stops was on a non-traversable network location. After some investigation, it appears that the software was attempting to route the trip on a walking path located outside of one of the facilities; one of my restrictions is to use an automobile, so that explains the error. Under the layer properties of my route, there is a network locations tab with the option "Exclude restricted portions of the network", checking this option solved my problem in ArcMap and I was able to create the route. However, when I published the change to our server, and we attempt to route via the REST API (passing a URL, then reading the response), it doesn't appear that the restricted portions of the network are being excluded as we are still receiving the original error message. Is this option something that only works in ArcMAP and won't work via the REST API, or is the more likely cause that I have done something wrong? 🙂 If this is an option that will only work in ArcMap, is there a comparable solution for when working with the REST API? I am using the default premium street data that was purchased with the software. If anymore information is required, please let me know and I will do my best to obtain it! Thanks in advance!

Hi Jay, Thank you for the response. The network dataset is located locally on both our desktop machine and our server. I do have Hierarchy on, I turned it off just for testing purposes, and it was WAY slower :). When you say that ArcMap solves use only one core, does that include a map running on the server after being published, or only in ArcDesktop? Our desktop machine is a single processor, but the server is a quad core. When I run task manager on the server, it appears the load is being distributed across the 4 cores, but the process itself never goes above 25% utilization. The goal was to do the map creation and tesing on the desktop machine, then publish the map to the server which we will hit via the REST API. Thank you again for your assistance.

Hello everyone, let my preface by saying that I am very new to ArcGIS, and to the world of GIS in general. My employer has purchased ArcGIS with the premium data to do some routing and geo-coding. I am not having any issues with the geo-coding, but with the routing I am having some performance issues. I have added a map of the US, and added the network dataset "streets" that comes with the premium data pack. I have added two points on the map that have quite a distance between them (I was using L.A. and St Louis just to test with), and it takes about 30 seconds to calculate the route. I get this speed on our desktop machine with ArcMap, and with our server after I published the map to it. The server has way better specs than the desktop machine so I would expect it to be faster. As another comparison, when I throw this route at the ESRI sample server, it completes in about 10 seconds, so I am sure there is some configuration that I am not aware of that is causing it to go so slowly. As a side note, but possibly related, when attempting to do the route on our server, only 25% of the CPU is being utilized. We ran some benchmarks on the hardware and it is working as it should (all 4 processors were maxed). Any help that you could offer would greatly be appreciated. If there is any other information that I can provide to assist, please let me know. Thank You, Dennis
