Hey. Is it possible to create a link (url) which will open a particular map in Collector for ArcGIS on Apple device? Thanks Martin

Hi. When setting up popups in AGOL map to use with Collector for ArcGIS, we used to setup some fields to show only when editing a feature. However, currently when a check mark is set only for EDIT and not for DISPLAY, no fields are displayed in Collector when editing the feature. Is this a bug, or is this intentional. We are using iOS for Collector. We are aware that when using Android, the field had to be set up both for display and edit to show under editing. I would like to add that we have found the possibility to show only fields when editing very useful. Hopefully it is coming back. Thanks Martin

Hi. I have a little issue with feature layer attachments. I have published a service with attachments and created a web app. When user clicks on attachment link in pop-up the attachments is automatically downloaded to users computer instead of being open in new browser window. Attachments are images. I think this may be some setting in ArcGIS server or IIS. On another server we are using, the image attachments are automatically opened in a new browser window, which is the behavior we prefer. Does anybody know where to set this up? Thanks for help Martin.

Can I download just the background map, without the feature layer? I do not want to set my feature layer to be archived as it creates some other issues for us. As I remember correctly, I would have to make the whole map available offline to be able to download it. But it has been a long time since I was experimenting with offline option.

I am 100% sure that it is cached service. I am sorry, but I do not have a permission to publish the link to service. I forgot to say that it seems like that when the map is accessed from Collector for ArcGIS on iPad. However, when I use AGOL on web I can see that tiles are coming. The image is displayed with a 2-3 seconds delay when testing on Collector for ArcGIS. When using AGOL in browser the tiles are coming almost instantaneously. However, I have tried just now to use the Collector APP on iPhone and it was much faster compared to iPad. I guess, that cache is used anyway. I was just wondering if there might be something special when setting cached layers to AGOL. I guess there isn't and the cache is used. Thank you.

I would like to add a cached image service to the map in AGOL. I am adding it as a background map. The image service is show correctly on AGOL map, but it seems that the images served from the image service are generated dynamically and the cache is not used. I also want to mention, that I am using a custom tiling scheme. Martin

Thank you for both answer. Both were helpful. But what happens when users zooms all the way in, in the blue area where there are no high resolution tiles. Will he get the tiles which are available just digitally resampled on the fly, or no tiles will be served, so he will see white background or whatever layers is located below?

I would like to create an image service with a cache. I have created a raster mosaic which consist of images with various resolution (ground sample distance). I know how to publish the service an create the cache but I am not sure how to optimize my service. Here is a practical example. At the image below there is a blue zone, that is the area which I want to publish an image service for. The GSD for the whole blue zone is 50 cm. However within that area there are some other zones, in this case zone 2 and 3 where I have an additional images with resolution of 10 cm. I want a user to be able to zoom to the greatest detail possible. Option 1: So I will set the service to be cached to the actual resolution of images with 10 cm GSD. This will work fine, but the problem is that the whole blue area will be cached to GSD of 10cm even though the actual resolution for the most of the area is 50 cm. This will result in unnecessary big cache size and if the area is big enough, then the cache size can be easily 100 times greater than necessary. Option 2: I can create 2 image services. One for the high resolution imagery and other for low resolution imagery. However, when user request the tiles from the services and the map extent is located in the area of high resolution imagery, the tiles from both image services will be sent to the user from the server. The high resolution will overlap the low resolution image, but this will increase the response time, as two sets of tiles have to be downloaded. So I wonder, what is the best practice to solving this dilema? Thank you. Martin

Hi. I am setting a label class to my feature layer. I have defined the parameters for the label class, between else font. The font object has a property family. I am wondering what fonts can I use, where are they coming from. Is there some kind of list of available fonts, or can I use any font which is on server where the page is running, or is it a font on a client's side? Thanks Martin

Hi. I have published an image service where I used polygon to clip a raster image, so the area of the image where there is no content will be clipped. However, when I add the image service to a map in AGOL, the image is not clipped anymore. On the other hand, if I view the service in ArcGIS JavaScript viewer from REST API, or if I add it to ArcMap the image is shown correctly. I think it used to work some time ago, but not anymore. Any idea why is this happening. The image is cached. Thank you. Martin

Is it possible to remove <No value> item from the value list for attributes which have defined attribute domains? We do not need to have <No value> item in each list, so in order to make collection less error-prone and exclude unnecessary values from value lists we would like to remove this value. Thank you, Martin.

Hi. We have setup a feature class for road drains. The feature class is published as a feature service and inspectors are cleaning the drains regularly. Once the drain was cleaned, the inspection is registered via Collector for ArcGIS in the database. To simplify the process we have setup one field which need to be changed to register the inspection. Once the field value is changed, the database triggers ensures that some additional fields in the feature class are modified. This works fine. I have also setup a relational table, let’s say “inspection log”, which holds records of particular inspections. Once the inspection is registered, the trigger also adds the inspection record to the “inspection log” table. However, to enter a record I need to enter a unique objectid to inspection log table (the objectid must be entered explicitly, it is not added automatically), which I do by determining the current max objectid and increasing it by one. This works fine. However, when I later try to enter a record to inspection table directly from ArcMap, the insert fails, because the next available objectid known to ArcGIS was used when entering the records by trigger. Is there any way how to update the value of next available objectid in arcgis system tables. I found a column named last_id in feature class’ i-Table, but it seems, that altering the value do not make any difference when entering new record. I know it is not recommended to alter system tables directly, but I would appreciate help, if somebody knows the safe and correct way to do this with the triggers. Just for a record, we are using PostgreSQL as DBMS and version 10.3 of ArcGIS software. Thank you Martin

We have setup a feature class for a municipality and the end users are guys who are not really high tech people. We were very glad that we were successful in implementing the system and they are really using it. So even though the workaround of saving images to camera roll and then attaching them to the features in collector is not a difficult task for many people on this forum, it might be a quite big complication for group of people in the field, which are not used to work with computers and tablets. We really hope that there will be a solution for this. If it is not possible for collector to resize the images directly, could it be possible for collector to define which app will be used to take pictures. This way the Camera Plus could be used to take pictures, which would be automatically resized by the Camera Plus before they are attached to the feature in the collector. Just a thought.
