Thanks so much Dan! The problem was not the null at all. It was the syntax error I made where I left out the parenthesis but it did not generate an error.

A super basic check for NULL in ArcGIS Pro Field calculator on a feature layer in ArcGISOnline does not work on a text field containing an address. It bombs and deletes all the data in the field or produces an error depending on which way I try to do it. It does not appear to equate None with NULL either. Code: MrClean(!ADDRESS!) def MrClean(MyInput): if MyInput is None: pass else: return MyInput.strip This is what I have tried: if MyInput is None No error just wipes out everything in the field because it is not finding the NULL values if MyInput == None No error just wipes out everything in the field because it is not finding the NULL values if isnull(MyInput) NameError: name 'isnull' is not defined if MyInput.isnull() AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'isnull' if isNull(MyInput) NameError: name 'isNull' is not defined if MyInput is NULL NameError: name 'NULL' is not defined if MyInput is Null NameError: name 'NULL' is not defined if MyInput is null NameError: name 'NULL' is not defined if MyInput == ' ' It wipes out everything and only gives this: WARNING 002858: Certain rows set to NULL due to error while evaluating python expression: File "<string>", line 9, in MrClean if MyInput == null: NameError: name 'null' is not defined

Anthony Ryan, Thank you SO MUCH! I have done computers since the mainframe and minicomputer days, GIS since ArcView 3.0, and IT since the 90's and I have never seen an interface as clunky and as much of a black box as ArcGIS Portal. You have saved me a lot of grief.

I have a new 10.8 Federated Portal/Server installed with Builder using Web Tier with Active Directory Authentication. There are several groups configured in Portal using "Create Group" in addition to the built-in Featured Maps and Apps which I would also like to utilize. Correct me if I am wrong but if I am in "My Content" on Portal, and I click "Move" on a content item , the Move Item dialogue should show the Groups I own or belong to right? It does not show any of the groups, not even the Featured Maps and Apps. If I type in a group name and then click move, it will say successfully moved but the item will not move. Am I missing something? Thanks!

For those looking for the same answer for ArcGIS Server 10.8, I initiated an ESRI tech support call, and as of 6-26-2020, the answer was that they did not support usage of a group managed service account for the account used for Integrated Windows Authentication to query users and roles, which is a maintenance nightmare for organizations with strict password expiration policies. He said that the only alternative at this time is a SAML server, but that is not an option for us at this time due to our organization's security policies.

When using web-tier authentication with integrated Windows Authentication, can a group managed service account be used for the account that is used to determine the groups in which users reside? ESRI documentation states that one should use an account with a password that does not expire, which is not allowable by my organizations security policy with no exceptions. In fact account expirations are barely over a month which would make maintaining an ArcGIS server a nightmare unless a group managed account could be used. ESRI docs say that a group managed service account can be used for the service account that ArcGIS server runs as and they provides a tool for doing so, but they do not say for the Windows Integrated Authentication. Many Thanks!

Is there (preferably) a picture somewhere of the CSS page layout pixel sizes for the ArcGIS Portal items (Portal help states widths for some of them), or does someone at least know how thick the Portal Home Menu is (the Home Gallery Map Scene Groups Content Organization menu)? Thanks!!

Another poster said that it should be possible to pan sharpen Landsat 8 imagery on the fly without duplicating data by adding the tiles using the Landsat 8 Raster Type, which "will add function chains to derive the pan sharpened product automatically." I have done this but I don't see any function chains added (ArcGIS 10.3.1). What am I missing? If I manually try to add a Pansharpening function, it seems that I have to generate a separate layer for band 8 to specify as the Panchromatic layer ahead of time, which does not seem like on-the-fly and it seems like there should be some other way from what other people have written. I installed the Arcgis 10.3 raster type patch thinking that would clear up the problem but there was no difference. Thanks!

The program crashed before a log was generated. It later occurred to me that the installers are just self-extracting executables so I downloaded and installed Winzip and manually extracted the files from the exe. After that, setup worked fine. Security settings and software were interfering with the self-extract process. Our network is so locked down that even a domain admin cannot disable the security and antivirus software. This process worked for everything except the Python installation file which Winzip reports as corrupt on more than one copy of the file so it looks like I will have to figure out how to do a repair. I could get Python from an outside source, but I was not sure whether the ESRI version included some extra libraries.

Installation of ArcGIS Desktop 10.3.1 is failing with Windows Log EventID 1000 on Windows 7 x64. Faulting module kernelbase.dll. Attempting to run the installer for the license manager instead of the Desktop software yields the exact same results. The install stops immediately with the same error. The computer previously was running ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.1 which was uninstalled before the attempted installation of 10.3.1. The user had installed every single option available including the ArcObjects SDK, Data Reviewer, Desktop Background Geoprocessing, License Manager, Workflow manager, Case Tools, and Data Interoperability all of which had been uninstalled. This user's computer has higher spec's than the other computers which worked fine and has plenty of RAM (16 GB) and disk space. 1) ran sfc /scannow 2) I am using the run as administrator option. 3) I have tried multiple copies of the install media (and it had installed properly on other computers from this media anyway) 4) I tried reinstalling 10.2 which worked fine but the user cannot open any mxd's because everyone else is on 10.3 5) User's computer has both Nvidia and Intel video chipsets. I am not sure how ArcGIS determines which one to use. 6) Installed all Windows Updates and installed the latest video driver 7) As a last resort, tried cleaning the registry of ESRI and ArcGIS entries to no effect. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

At the time I was testing 10.4 and then 10.4.1, ESRI had confirmed this was a bug and that there was no fix or workaround yet. I was forced to migrate backward to 10.3.1 because of the following bugs which had no fixes 1) This one - pdf exports only partially both in Desktop and in Scripts (still no fix at the time I write this) 2) Services which took 10-15 seconds to publish in 10.2-10.3 took 15-20 minutes on 10.4.1 resulting in that much service downtime. (per my other thread, ESRI later released a bug fix for this) 3) Bing maps do not work in PDF exports with ArcPy on ArcGIS server (does work on desktop). This one was broken in previous versions as well, just not fixed yet. 4) Not compatible with SQL Server 2008 R2 (This one is not a bug. ESRI does not claim it is supposed to work. Do not try it even temporarily. It caused corruption when testing to see if we could temporarily get by)

If using the Flex Viewer, popups are not controlled by the hyperlinks in ArcGIS Desktop, they are controlled by the configuration files in the Flex Viewer itself. You have to do two things: 1) In the config.xml in the main folder of the flex viewer, you add the map service and add a sublayer tag which specifies which popup configuration file to use for each layer like this: <layer label="Demographics" type="tiled" visible="false" alpha="0.6" url="http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Demographics/USA_Median_Household_Income/MapServer"> <sublayer id="1" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Demographics_BlockGroups.xml"/> <sublayer id="2" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Demographics_Tracts.xml"/> <sublayer id="3" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Demographics_Counties.xml"/> <sublayer id="4" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Demographics_States.xml"/> </layer> 2) Create a popup configuration file in the popups folder. You can copy one of the example files and modify it to fit the attributes in your layers. If you have lots of layers or layers with hundreds of attributes that you don't wish to type out, I created a script a few years ago which you can download from ArcScripts which will automatically generate popup files for every layer in the map service you specify. If you are new to ArcGIS, I should make you aware that although Silverlight and Flex are superior in some ways to the current javascript viewer, ESRI has chosen to stop supporting Silverlight and Flex so you may want to consider looking at Javascript.

On a mosaic dataset where all of the rasters need to have their own stretch, why would the search which shows available functions for "Batch Edit Raster Functions" in ArcMap 10.3.1 only show RasterInfo and not any other options including stretch? It does not matter whether I choose Insert, Edit, and Remove, it still only shows RasterInfo. I recalculated statistics for each individual raster in the mosaic dataset, but that did not help. Even if I Batch re-insert RasterInfo or remove RasterInfo, nothing changes. It still shows RasterInfo as the only available function. Thanks

It has been two years and two versions of ArcGIS since this post was started and it still has not been fixed. While I was talking to ESRI support about two other new bugs, I logged this problem with them, so at least they are now aware of it, so perhaps it will get fixed in a future version.

I have 18 map services running (that includes counting twice the ones that have feature access). The tech did initially say that https could slow things down a little (we were not using https in 10.2) but not by that much. I am confident they will fix it now that they are working on it, just not sure how long we will have to wait. I also opened a support ticket for a problem with exporting in 10.4 that they were able to recreate, so I also will have to wait for that one to be fixed before moving to 10.4.x. I will keep you guys updated if any short term fixes/workarounds are found.
