Hi, I'm trying to convert ascii data to a contour shape file, so it can be used in CAD. I've manage to do this using the contour function in Spatial Analyst. However, the resulting file if enormous, around 2GB. This is from an ascii file that was around 120MB. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to convert it without resulting in a such a large shape file - something that was around the same size as the ascii would be more manageable. I'm confused as to why the resulting shape file is so large, so any explanations of that would be equally appreciated! Many thanks, Nick

Hi Dan, thanks for getting in touch. It will accept .txt, .asc or .igm files. Not a great choice I'm afraid.

Hi, I’m trying to combine LiDAR from two different sources into one file using the mosaic function. I then need to convert the resultant file into ascii format. I’ve been trying to do this in Arc using the mosaic function, before I export it to other software to build a ground model and carry out the hydraulic computations that are needed. The problem is that the ascii file I end up with is enormous, around 50X the size that I was expecting. Can anyone please let me know what might be going wrong? Many thanks, Nick
